First a little story.
I found LE last March on the 19th. I found this because at the time on Path of Exile forums people were complaining about season clash dates. I saw LE all over the place so I googled it and found it. I went to YouTube and it looked really cool so I brought it and started to play.
What I didn’t do and I normally would have is read forums/YT for info on the game which, man I am glad I didn’t. I would have come to the forums to see a few people complaining about the game, the devs and everything in life, really.
Now what I’m asking for is just stricter moderation on posts that basically “hate” on the game, they don’t just ask for ideas or whinge about a current small issue. They say the game is dead, POE is better, the devs are wasting their time, EHG made their own bed, why bother continuing to make this game etc etc etc.
It’s negative, boring and brings a horrible vibe to a place where most people want to create and interact and talk about stuff and drop suggestions about the game and so on. What it also does is if any person who might have happened to hear about the game wants to see how busy it is or how people find it “THIS GAME SUCKS DEVS WHY GET OUT OF BED” is what they’ll find. This is bad for your business.
People compare this to POE all the time, painstakingly a lot infact so why not take on board at least one thing they do - moderate the forums more strictly. If someone on there posts POE sucks or LE SHOULD DIE the mods immediately delete the post and send a personal notification.
I for one am so sick and tired of seeing these negative morons whinging so hard you can see their tears through the screen. I shouldn’t have to manually ignore people. From a moderation stand point with your policies and just straight up business sense on wanting people to play and not be turned away should be on top of this.
I wrote this with a touch of rage so I am not reading back to check it, hope it makes sense.
I would agree with this if “ridiculous negativity” included being so negative towards the community that anyone with any negative criticism is called a “hater”.
This happens with any game. There are literally hundreds or even thousands of “PoE is dead” posts in their forums for years, ever since the beginning.
Same for D2 or D4. Hell, you even find it in CS2 and that’s one of the most successful games that has over 1M daily players.
Unless people are being insulting to each other, there’s no point in moderating negativity. It’s better to just ignore them (don’t feed the trolls). Otherwise you’re just giving them more reasons to talk smack about the game (“EHG is so bad that they even censor people saying anything bad about the game”).
These forums aren’t as big and sure if left un-watched it might turn into what you described but whenever I saw a post attacking POE on the forums it would be gone on a refresh. I have been on there since beta.
If they can’t see it from a business prespective then ok fine. Easiest thing for me to do is just abuse the hell out of people, bounce my IP using vpns, use the 350 spare email addresses I still have (I deny that attack on my old co-worker) and just abuse people daily, I’ve got time.
What do you mean “gone on a refresh”? There are still hundreds of posts attacking PoE on their forums. They’re all archived due to the time that passed (these forums also lock threads on inactivity), but they’re still there for all to see.
Yeah so not really keen on turning this into another pure POE vs LE thread.
I made the point POE is mentioned too much already even though I used it as an example from personal experience having seen threads and posts being moderated in live upon clicking “the refresh” button (F5) on the browser and pow it’s gone. Trolls will always be trolls and get through but if you want to compare the 100s who use these formums (100s seems like an over reach tbh, lol ) to the 10’s of thousands who use theirs then sure, you’re going to have a tougher time.

I wasn’t really trying to make a PoE vs LE point. My point was that this happens in every forum and in every game.
There have been threads that have been deleted in these forums too, but that’s usually when people are being offensive to each other.
Most forums will delete/close topics of an offensive nature, but they’ll keep the “game is dead” or “game sucks” ones around as long as they remain somewhat civil. Because in those threads you’ll usually also see players defending the game and the reasons why the OP is wrong, and this is also good feedback on what people enjoy about it.
Very often these threads even turn into the other players discussing things that are good/bad in the game and ignoring the OP completely. A bad suggestion thread can turn into a useful one this way.
I also wish there was less negativity on the forum, but I don’t think censorship is the way to achieve that.
