Hello, just bought the game and having fun and all but I get 2 inconsistant crash :
First one is an SymGetSymFromAddr64 that put me back to windows got it mutiple times here s the crash log & zip of dump : error.log (84.3 KB) crash.zip (34.3 KB)
The second one I don’t have errors, just sometimes i can see a Unity frame error with something written “Error Valloc”, it disappear fast, can’t really have more information
Based on your info and system spec, I am assuming that you are running the game on high in-game settings and possibly with unlimited framerates?
As you know, LE is in beta and it definitely has performance related stability issues… and I am pretty sure that you are a victim of these issues…
While it all varies based on individual system configurations & setups… its recommended that anyone who is currently having stability problems be more conservative with their settings in favour of a more stable game than enjoying the eye candy…
Try the following process:
Temporarily set your in-game settings to 1080p, 60fps framerate limited (not vsync) with all ingame settings to very low or disabled. Test for stability. If its fine, then I’d normally suggest increasing the resolution but based on your config, leave it and increase the framerate limit - do not leave this unlimited as that causes stability issues… and test again… Note: people with 3080s have found that 120fps is a good upper limit for maintaining stability at 2k res, so I would probably recommend no more than that for your 2080 @ 1080p - you may even want to make it lower based on GPU usage & temp values. LE can cause GPUs to work their arses off for no real reason. Test again… If its still stable, then increase the in-game settings one by one testing as you go… again, the general concensus for people having stability problems is to not go above Medium graphics settings at higher resolutions… For your setup, you are going to have to play around but I would personally not go above Medium even at 1080p because of the issues you are already experiencing.
Doing the above tends to solve the problems with most players… Obviously when the devs get to dedicating time to dealing with the performance issues then we can all enjoy the eye candy but for now its better to be a little conservative…
yeah, I’ve started with ultra preset to see how the game handle it, for the story I’ve got no problem at all with the ultra preset, and for information I’m now caped at the refresh rate with the limit of my screen (165Hz), and I’m at 1080p like before with the 2080ti.
The problems only begins with monotlith part of the game, and some seems linked (or not ^^) to some tilesets of map…
I’ve found that shadows are pain in the ass and make my graphic card’s fan flying to the moon even at medium…
But for others options I can push them to ultra or be at very low it will only change the speed of the crashes occurrences, because yes even at very low i’ll got the next problems (all are indenpendant from graphics settings, only shadows quality are always at “very low” & “detail shadows” is unchecked for my ears safety) :
memory leak, like internet explorer in the old days
black screen leading to crash 1 to 4 echoes after, happen often with tileset like willows marsh, midnight strand, volcanic city.
crash when I was changing graphics settings
crash on exiting the game (when I clic on “Exit to desktop” xD )
Ultra = Crashes more often for no real benefit in eye candy imho. I can almost guarantee a crash in 30-60min if I set mine to UItra
The framerate cap at 165 - check what your GPU usage % is at… if its getting higher than 75-80% then LE can and does get unstable… Sure you have noticed it, by LE has FPS spikes and it seems that when these spikes happen and the GPU is already busy, the game can get more than a little flaky… Even guys with better systems than yours have found that the higher framerate is just not worth it stability wise… I think the highest I have seen that players are happy with is 144 and that was on 3080s. The game is very much CPU & GPU intensive right now and honestly, do you really need an ARPG at anything higher?
Monolith is usually where the problems come… Why this is? Probably because the MoF maps are more random in terms of mob density & are generally larger to load requiring more… Very few people have issues with the campaign although there are some very specific maps that have crashes specifically on loading - also temporarily solved by reducing the in-game settings…
Shadows are a known issue… The devs have updated them a few times since I started playing in Aug 2020 - each time improving performance a little but they are still not great vs the impact on performance.
Memory leak… this is something that others have discussed but that we have been unable to 1) get feedback from the devs on and 2) been able to independantly confirm… From my own personal testing, i have experienced nothing that I would consider a memory leak - I have played 8h or more and seen no “leak” - I have even left it running for longer than that in town while loggin memory usage… Memory usage for me does jump up and down during play and especially when loading maps/areas but it always settles back down to an average baseline that doesnt increase over time… I have found that In-game graphics settings DO affect overall system RAM used by LE and depending on options chosen I can have LE use as much as 10-12GB or as little as 7-9GB on my 16gb system… It can fluctuate GBs at a time. Instability regarding memory use is also a little tricky as some people having hassles have been pushing their hardware with overclocks (XMP for memory and GPU overclocks) and with LE lacking optimisation, this can push too hard…
Black screen… Assuming you can see the UI and hear sounds but not see anything… This one has happened to others… If I recall it was very random… Sometimes steam verification solved it… other times not…
Crash when changing settings & exiting… Personally never had one when changing settings but then again, I know thats currently a dangerous activity so I dont mess with it often… … Have had it crash on me once during an exit… but I think I caused it by alt-tabbing at the wrong moment …
Glad you are enjoying the game… looking forward to the new update on Monday… its big enough to maybe affect the issues that you are having…
