I echoed that sentiment in a different topic. I know things will change immensely with the introduction of more classes and gear types, but right now right here, it feels bad. I am not worried about 1.0, GGG has done enough over the years to prove they are competent. In a snapshot of right now though, the system is very limiting.
Grim Dawn pulled em off properly. So theyâre not inherently bad.
But with PoE 2âs design they definitely are not working well, they screwed up the usage of CC on both sides as well as maneuvering space.
A powerful mechanic like dodge needs proper balancing around it or it trivializes content.
Thatâs not something that can be left out. Either you have it or you donât.
Youâll never be able to get creative with weapon swaps. Weapon power in PoE 2 is extremely different, one side will inherently have a massive upside. It was not a good design in PoE 1 and is also not in PoE 2. Hence why weâre getting a âpartial switch optionâ, namely for example spear only towards spear + shield since it allows different movesets with ups and downs but without the issues of severely different damage existing through an item.
Plus infering what the mechanics have in terms of potential with the current setup.
Weapon switching is a great fun mechanic! In games outside of PoE 2.
Combos are a great fun mechanic! In games outside of PoE 2.
You gotta design your game with your mechanics in mind⌠not cobble stuff together willy-nilly without taking consideration into how those mechanics change your game.

I never noticed or used combos in the Grim Dawn and enjoyed the game.

I joined the POE closed beta in 2011 and the game was very different than what people saw at launch. Over the years theyâve added content in the aims of appealing to a wider audience (leagues/seasons/etc) and in my opinion a lot of that content made the game worse. They were throwing anything at us in the hopes people would become engaged in whatever part they found interesting thus creating âengagementâ and âshareholder valueâ. Then Tencent got involved and the rest is history.
Depending on class it was very important to do combination play, but they also implemented options which were very straight forward⌠up to total passive gameplay with dual shields. A broad spectrum. Some went better some worse.
As for the change in PoE 1⌠absolutely! But thatâs the bane of every single life-service game. New implementations are mandatory⌠you can either expand the story and hence create more content this way - FF 14 does that - but thatâs a massive hit or miss situation. Or⌠you broaden the mechanics out like PoE does, only putting out a expansion every so often while implementing more and more side mechanics. That changes the gameplay heavily.
Itâs not a situation where a workaround to avoid it has been found yet, if one exists at all. WoW is entirely different then when it began, PoE 1 is, D3 also changed substantially, even games like Everquest 2 did (1 not, they didnât expand on it majorly). Itâs a normal route games go, and when started off early the chance for it to turn into a unwanted direction is simply very very high.
POE2 is a TTW game,TRADE TO WIN. you cannot get a 400+ dps weapon without tradding,
And you need 400+ dps because
