Just bought the game, had no issues until reaching the Temple of Eterra area. I get a black screen but can still hear sounds, after walking a short distance or even upon loading in at times.
Here is my last crash report, any help would be greatly appreciated.error.log (81.1 KB) Player.log (50.5 KB)
Generally people who are experiencing crashes and black screens are able to resolve this by changing graphic settings… The next bit is something that seems to work…
Temporarily set your resolution to 1080p, 60fps framerate limit enabled, all in-game graphics settings to very low or disabled…
Test for stability.
If its stable, then increase the resolution to what you want to play at - nothing else.
If its stable, then increase the framerate limit - set it to your monitor capability or less but do not remove a limit.
If its stable, then increase the in-game graphics - testing between each change. It is not recommended to go above Medium even on high end systems as this causes lots of stability issues.
Obviously a combination of higher settings can also cause instability - so its best to be conservative until the devs have a chance to deal with these instability & performance issues.
If nothing above works then you have a different issue…
Hmm… thats unfortunate… This solves the problem 90% of the time…
Whatever the outcome here, Ultra in-game settings are surefire way of getting regular crashes so I’d not use that setting until the devs fix the performance/stability issues.
Just to confirm:
At 1080p, 60fps frame limited, everything to very low or disabled you are still having crashes? With this exact combination of settings?
Assuming thats a firm Yes from you then the next batch of things to try gets a little muddy…
Are you running anything else at the same time you are playing? Known problem causers have been things like Steam Overlay, Nvidias Overlay (cant recall the name), Critix, Teamviewer… Anything else that can spike the CPU or GPU usage even temporarily. LE does not play nice with other things trying to take resources.
Are you using a PS controller plugged into the USB? Some have found that unplugging this makes a difference, but its usually causing a loading delay rather than a black screen.
Have you overclocked your system in any way? LEs problems tend to be exacerbated by systems running in the redline…
Do you use Windows 10 Notification with the focus options? i.e. things that take focus away from the game at adhoc times? Does the game crash when using Alt-Tab?
Does the crash happen only with a particular character? i.e. if you make a new one or use a different existing character does the crash happen in the same place?
Can you check your windows error log to see if there is something that windows is specifically reporting as causing a problem? Sometimes this can point to a dll or something that gives more of an idea of where the problem started from a windows perspective. The error log can also give you an idea of any other things that are not happy on your system - i.e. maybe there is a driver problem or something else that is inadvertenty making LE throw its legs in the air.
When it happens (black screen but still have sound) then try unplugging your speaker/headset - sometimes this kicks things back to normal - this is a very obscure thing to try but you may as well.
Some players have found they get better stability by setting the Last Epoch .exe priority in task manager to higher than normal… Its not really recommended but apparently it makes a difference for some…
Does trying exclusive fullscreen vs windowed make any difference at the 1080p test settings?
Obviously everything suggested here is assuming that your system is patched to the latest windows, all drivers(not just graphics) are up to date and there are no underlying issues… like flaky harddrive or overheating or anything preexisting…
It is a bit odd tho… lots of players use MSI Afterburner (me included)… unless you were using it to overclock - which is known to make things flaky in LE… (point 3 above)
