I’m guessing you didn’t read the whole thread (not that I blame you), but Mike already addressed the validity of the system. It’s working correctly. It just incidentally (probably not intentionally) preys on people’s negativity bias. Even though I’m aware of this, I’m still susceptible to it.
I don’t know if they should try to fix or rework this system, but many ideas have been proposed for the former. I’m curious what people might prefer for the latter.
I have been very vocal about my skepticism in this regard. I lost interest in the itemization rather rapidly compared to other games in the genre.
It’s not even about that. I got bored with the items well before that point. The problem is that drops and crafting feel bad, and paradoxically, they have each other to blame.
Agree. I’m just not sure if it’s a good idea in the end. We’ll see.
Many of these have been suggested before, so I assume the devs have weighed these ideas in their internal talks. I’m not sure if they really solve the issue I face, though.
Having covered so much ground (as a community) with regard to itemization, crafting, trade, etc., I’m really curious if/how EHG will adjust the game (in these areas and in the very near future) going forward. I really want this game to be good, but (for me, at least) there just isn’t enough to sink my teeth into right now. Itemization and respec are the two biggest culprits of this, but there are some minor offenders as well (movement skills, melee feels bad, campaign is long and boring, etc).
I’m not convinced otherwise. Fractures halt progression. Damaging fractures reverses progression. Your idea is the exact same thing but dressed in the illusion of choice. Once you reach a point that you lose affix tiers, the likelihood to get two consecutive success is infinitesimally small that no sane person would ever go for it. Will there be stories of success? Sure. But it’s not logical behavior to design a system around.
I can understand why you would see it this way. I’m not looking for the “perfect” game, though. Just one that can satisfyingly scratch that certain itch. I don’t believe there is a studio alive with the courage to attempt something close to what I might consider perfect, lol. It wouldn’t be fast, easy, or cheap to accomplish either, so there’s those factors too.
