Cosmetic Shop Beta | Coming in Rising Flames

I agree with your all of your points. I would love to spend some money on cosmetics to support the devs and this game. But… 20$ portals… are really outlandish. They need to restructure the cost of cosmetics a bit and/or shop currency before I personally will spend money on them. Plus, I really hate FOMO. Wish if they add cosmetics, just keep them in the store to buy later on. Maybe a front page that rotates “hot items” or something would be cool, but to NEVER see an item again in the shop is something that I hate. Hopefully they make changes to these things soon or adress the comments on this update before it comes out.

Excited for new cosmetics finally. Very welcome news.

However, those prices? Those seem excessively steep, like buying a hot dog at a MLB game for 20$. As a supporter who bought packs in both Alpha and Beta that 1200 points I have waiting is hardly going go anywhere. That’s pretty disappointing.

I love being a Gamer in 2023 where Shops/Supporter packs are discussed before game is even released fully. I like the confidence of devs to price things same as POE when their game is P2P and not even release worthy at current state of the end game. I really wish Devs can focus on fixing bugs with game before focusing on something else in future,

I definitely want to support LE but if the MTX is anything like the preview for the Portal, in terms of cost and visuals, (looks super out of place due to no lighting) then I’m afraid I’ll have to skip out on them.

Where have your standards gone?

Just sounds like the genre you’re talking about beat you down enough where you’re now willing to stomach this sort of thing. That’s sad.

That’s also not helpful to improving the genre. LE and EHG in specific wanted to create something unique and amazing, yet they’re following the same nonsense… Don’t encourage that, it’s gross.

Items shown are at:

  • 95 EP (about $7.5)
  • 165 EP (about $13)
  • 185 EP (about $14.6)

And the packs are at:

  • $9.5 for 120 EP
  • $19 for 265 EP
  • $50 for 755 EP

My main issue is less the price (it seems a bit too expensive but I’ll wait to see more to confirm that feeling) than the fact it’s not possible to just by an item. You are forced to overpay then end with unused EP.
There should be an option to pay just for the thing you want (by directly buying the item or buying the exact amount of EP you need - either with prices aligned on packs or by being able to buy a desired amount of EP) then options to pay more to get packs containing more EP than you directly need that include bonus EP.

Please respect your customers.
If they want to help you by buying an optional cosmetic item, let them buy it. You don’t have to force them to pay more than they want/need to.
And if they want to pay more to get a better ratio of EP per $, then you can propose packs.

I’ll just buy what I like and can afford.

Workers need to eat and if this monetization brings more money to the company then so be it. I just want to enjoy this game for a long time and don’t care that much whether I have the entire MTX store bought in my account or just a couple items I enjoy the most.

People need to really grow up.

it’s easy for you to say when you’re from a first world country… it is expensive if the prices are not region based… and it should be region based…

have you ever been out of your country to make such bold statement?

It’s completely reasonable to give feedback on the monetization. If nobody buys the cosmetics it’s not going to help them much now is it? Notice how none of the criticisms are about the existence of the shop, but rather the implementation?

LE is an early access game that some of us have paid $35 for and, let’s be honest, has a long way to go before it’s release-quality. Predatory MTX tactics are a slap in the face.

Let the damage control begin.

No, not even close. This is a hyperbolic argument that doesn’t help.

give me the game I already paid for then I’ll consider giving you more for additional stuff not a minute before

There have been lots of threads in the past asking for it as well. It’s not like this isn’t something that some were demanding.

I assume that you weren’t replying to me, but the thread. If you did mean to reply to me, then I don’t know what you are talking about. I’m not a dev. You aren’t giving me any money for anything (unless you want to I guess).

Must be hard keeping your eyes shut for so many years.

That bolsters my point even more. We are willing to spend money, just not by supporting these scummy MTX practices.

The thing is not enough people actually do. There is decades of marketing data on this. Taking something that is $20 and making it $10 doesn’t mean you get double or more sales. I think it was something like only 15% of people even spend on mtx in f2p games. A game like this that already has a buy in will probably have even less willing to spend, and this game already has a niche playerbase to start with. With so few potential spenders each item sold has to give a big return.

What a strange thread. This shop design is nothing new, and no response here so far is a new argument for either side. I find this shop design the most ethical for supplemental revenue in this game type, and the prices are simply a business decision considering development cost, market research, etc. If any kind of loot box shows up, though, I take this all back.

Rather than arguing a side, I’m more interested in the FOMO and its addiction implications. If you struggle or think you will struggle to make or avoid recreational purchases to an extent that it creates problems in your life, I’m confident that EHG would be willing to help by introducing a purchase limit or block on accounts who request it. Game and collectible addiction is real and EHG have regularly shown they are real people who care about their players. Everyone can cry “predatory” or “too expensive,” but the problem is not the sales tactics. The problem is the susceptibility to them. If you need help, please ask for it.

I meant the thread yes sorry for confusion lol

I understand the marketing data and why things cost what they do. That doesn’t make it less predatory nor does it please anyone. The stated goal from EHG from day one was to be different and do things their own way. Is it any wonder that those of us without unlimited wallets were hoping for something better?

Suggested Solution: There is nothing to say you can’t have multiple tiers of cosmetics as well – say a “Working Joe that’s pretty decent” tier and a “My money procreates like rabbits OH WOW THAT’S SICK” tier. And yes, the uper tier’s items will look better, have better animations, more effects, etc. The differences between the two could justify the additional development time needed to create them. The point is that hope and expectation meets reality somewhere in the middle.

Also, cutting the price of something in half rarely results in double sales, we know this to be true. However, I would like to buy enough cosmetics to support the game without taking out a third mortgage.
