Sorry you are having hassles… LE is in beta so there are issues that can cause things like this - thankfully most of them have workarounds that can improve things in the games current state.
Please can you include some more information - system info (dxdiag), the in-game settings file and please can you check that the player.log you include is immediately after a crash - the game cycles this file so the crash info might not be in it. Also… if the game crashed, it can sometimes create an error / crash folder with an error.log - if this file exists, it will contain much more detail as to the exact problem.
The info in the files above will allow those of us helping out to recommend fixes or tell if this is something the devs need to try and replicate…
In the meanwhile here are some things to try:
Verify the game files in Steam - very important and you might need to do this more than once if the process finds something to fix
Make 100% sure your OS is updated to 19042/43
Graphics card drivers can sometimes cause issues - especially if they have not installed properly or become corrupted (yes it does happen)… For now, just double check you are using the latest stable driver… If we get more detail on the error that points to the drivers then we can try some things.
LE has performance related instability… i.e. if you push the resolution & in-game settings without limits in place, then the game can and does crash… even on high end hardware like yours. For example, running the game at 4k in Ultra mode with no framerate limit will likely crash the game - I’d probably put money on this happening at least once a session… A key thing to note here is that its NOT what the hardware SHOULD handle, its the state of the GAME right now. Lower end hardware has the same problem, just on lesser in-game settings/resolutions. To test if this is what is happening on your system… Temporarily set the game to 1080p, 60fps framerate limited (important & use the limit not vsync) and ALL in-game settings to very low or disabled… If the game is stable - then you have the performance related issue and simply have to find a stable config that works for your particular system. The simplest way to do this is to set the resolution to what you want to play at, set the framerate limit to whatever your monitor can handle (remember a 60Hz screen can only physically refresh the monitor at 60fps) and then increase the in-game settings slowly to find a good compromise between visuals & stability. Its very important that you do implement a framerate limit - whatever you want it to be - because without it, the game will MAX out your GPU for no apparent reason and this causes a lot of instability. Obviously setting the limit too high will serve no purpose so you have to see what works for your setup.
If you include the other info, then I should be able to see if there is something more specific that is causing your issue.
Question: Did you try playing the game on the 1080p settings for any length of time to rule out the performance related instability issue?
Reason I ask this, is that you are running the game on Ultra settings @ 3440x1440 (and have three monitors and I assume of running other things at the same time) and the current state of the game means that if there is any instability, its likely to crash at these high settings… Remember its not your hardwares capability that is in doubt here, its the game - its like driving a ferrari (your hardware) with dirty oil (the game currently) and the engine overheating when you floor it - normal driving doesnt cause a problem…
The key here is to establish if LE is crashing because of the known issue and with your settings its impossible to say.
(Sorry EHG for the poor analogy - the game is NOT dirty oil )
Thanks for including your Dxdiag…
Irrespective of the known issue of Last Epochs performance instability, there are some things in the dxdiag that I think need addressing as they could be contributing factors to the problem.
Interestingly there are no Last Epoch errors in the diagnstic section (at the end) which means that your system is not even registering that game is crashing which is pretty odd…
Your system is reporting that your Asus motherboard software is crashing atkexComSvc.exe & ArmourySwAgent.exe - what affect this is having on your system is unknown, but its crashing KERNELBASE.dll - a core windows API dll and this is not a good thing for system stability… I would recommend that you either remove this software if its serving no purpose or reinstall it/newer version etc - I do not recommend ignoring this.
Unfortunately there is another error which I dont like to see as its usually indicative of some bigger problems: Your system is crashing with dwm.exe - this is the Windows Desktop Manager that handles all the desktop related graphics, animations, high resolution monitor support and a long list of things that your Windows installation needs… For this to be crashing means that there is some underlying problem on your system that needs to be fixed. Problem is that the cause could be anything from GPU drivers, corrupted system files or any other number of things… There have been people on this forum with this error and after a lot of debugging and attempting to fix things, most have had to resort to reverting to a previous windows restore point OR reinstalling windows to get rid of this issue… A key point here is that once they resolved this dwm.exe issue, Last Epoch ran perfectly fine without any issues - Unfortunately reinstalling windows means that the root cause of the problem couldnt be established but problems and issues with LE went away.
Before considering something as dramatic as a reinstall of an OS, I would recommend the following:
Fix the Asus software (remove or install newer version/reinstall).
Because of the Asus software problem, I would recommend that you make sure that your BIOS is updated and any motherboard related devices are using updated drivers wherever possible. Simplest is to check Asus website for any driver packs for your motherboard.
Run Windows Update and verify that there are no deferred or failed updates or third party updates that need confirmation to be installed.
Do a safe mode GPU driver reinstallation. Just running an gpu driver installation in Windows doesnt always replace driver files that could have become corrupted. You can also consider using something like DDU to make this easy to do.
Edit: you mentioned updating Asus… but my motherboard is MSI Prestige x570 creation… why is it showing Asus? i’m confused.
i can’t thank you enough, you been great help bro… my knowledge in computers goes little beyond playing games and using excel/power point… but i will try to do the fixes you suggested with the help of google to guide me through it
to be honest, i think my mistake was upgrading my PC with AMD graphics card… i haven’t learned my lesson from 20 year ago that they make crappy drivers and software… but i couldn’t get a hold of an Nvidia card due to scalpers and just decided to bite the bullet… and in hindsight i shouldn’t have done so…
I mentioned Asus because your dxdiag diagnostics are showing that you have Asus motherboard software installed and its crashing - I didnt check your motherboard info when I first looked at the dxdiag… Obviously if you dont have an asus motherboard then this explains it…
Did you do a full reinstall your Operating system when you replaced the motherboard ? If you didnt then its very possible that the old hardware drivers are still on your machine and messing things up - windows is not clever enough to know not to try and run the old software and drivers from your old system. Whenever you replace a motherboard (especially with a CPU change) - you have to do a OS reinstall imho - you cannot just put the old boot drive in the new machine… it will “work” after a fashion but you will have lots of bizzare problems.
There is nothing wrong with your choice of hardware - thats a beast of a configuration that most people would give a spare nut to have - I know I would. It just needs to be correctly installed and configured… Honestly, you have not made any bad decisions here especially with the current PC market…
Based on what you have mentioned & the odd fact that your system is inexplicably running old motherboard software, I would recommend that you just backup your docs / private stuff/ savegames etc and reinstall Windows clean from scratch.
