Censorship

maybe you shouldnt be getting angry over an npc ?

yeah things can be covered by the policy, but that never stops it from happening.

Yeah the filter is too strict. Its okay to voice your opinion about that. But you seem to be making a much bigger deal about it than needed. Theyve been aware of this and acknowledged this issue before

Many filters I’ve seen in action over the years have issues. LE’s filter seems to be the worst I have encountered so far, with many false positives.

Some filters use words from a variety of languages and check if the sequence is part of a word. Maybe Asmongold triggers ā€œmongoā€, a not so nice word to describe people with down-syndrome in Germany.

Who knows, maybe it’s a bad AI checking all messages, and sometimes it decides that a message is inappropriate, other times it isn’t

the censorship is weird, once i typed ā€œon the internet, no one know you’re a duck sized horse riding a horse sized duckā€ (it was a joke related to people pretending to be AI in the offline chat when someone asked if we were real players) , and for some reason it was censored
i think the censored part was ā€œduck sizedā€

ā€œriding a horse sized duckā€ looks just like a minor typo to something that can be reasonably filtered

i don’t think that’s the problem

To be fair, his name does contain two different versions of a term that has historically been used as an offensive, sometimes racist pejorative.

Let’s not turn that into a debate about the validity/merits of blocking those terms. I’m just making an observation on how it could make sense for his name to get filtered.

You’re new around here, right?

DaActualFuq? I mean, given the, wet paper mache skin people have these days, this doesn’t surprise me. But what racist pejorative(s) exist, that I have missed out on using? I must add them to my Offend the Easily Offended toolbox…

The pejoratives ā€œmongā€ and ā€œmongoā€ derive from this, both of which are substrings of Asmongold’s name.

Well thanks a lot, I had not noticed that in Asmon’s name before and not I can’t not see it.

Really though, that being filtered would mean I couldn’t talk about Mongolia at all, seems a bit silly.

I’ve seen this issue come up daily since I started playing this game and haven’t seen any acknolwedgement.

The chat system is loaded with issues.

Yeah that’s exactly the problem, it is now so tightly set that having a conversation sometimes becomes difficult. I fully understand we can’t have players screeching the N word in chat, but right now it just defeats it’s purpose.

It’s also just frustrating, want to say something non offensive, get blocked
Reword it hoping to say what you wanted to say, still gets blocked.
Well fuck it then I’ll keep my mouth shut.

Can’t be what they actually intended hopefully.

Couldn’t agree more… But the devs are mostly americans, so we are fucked here ^^

Also I have to say, in a world dominated by censorship, better stay on the safe side… If you’re growing a business.

Gosh I hope they are not using MongoDB.

It’s funny you can swear in the fucking forum all fucking day long untill you are fucking tired of the shit you see herer in this clusterfuck of threads but the ingame chat is instantly censoring people who even think about writing a word.

It’s kind of funny. I understand some people dilike swearing in general but I don’t give a fuck.

(Just making an overexaggerated example here… satire you know?)

I like how swearing is still offensive to some people. ā€˜Offensive’ is literally the most incorrectly used term, it’s almost ironic.

I see what you did there lmao.

No they aren’t. Plenty of devs are not-American, some are even shudder Russian! And Ukranian! In the same team/company!!!

Almost mate, almost…

You have tried to bring up dunning kruger effect on the topic why PoE attracts elitism, my boi can you see the irony in your behaviour or will you go full murican way and become a master of contradictions?xD

Yeah, i think if the profanity filter is toggled off, maybe the bot detection should be off as well. or tone it way down. I have seen the message various time over simple statements and i was like, why?
