Playing the game for the first time right now.
I have an issue with a black game world in some seemingly random locations.
The UI and the game itself still works fine, but everything is just black.
I’ve had this happen in several maps before, it was usually fixable by just restarting the game and loading back into the map.
But in this instance, I can’t get it to work at all, and after repeatedly trying to load into the zone the game even crashes.
I’m also on TAA not SMAA, which was suggested in some threads. DxDiag LE.txt (126.7 KB) Player.log (146.9 KB) Player-prev.log (254.8 KB) le_graphicsmanager.ini (480 Bytes)
This issue has had a few different “causes” over the last year or so…
There was an issue a while ago with this kind of problem also being caused by GPU drivers… it was the 466.xx drivers - the 471.xx drivers were fine… Maybe you want to consider rolling back a driver version see if a similar thing is happening now?
Verifying the game files through steam has also resolved this a few times
Another is the Ultra setting… I know you are using a monster machine so this unlikely to be a result of the games known performance issues but there does seem to be something in the Ultra setting that tends to produce problems… Temporarily just try Very High or even High to see if this issue stops happening…
The antialisating issue has cropped up as a recent cause with SMAA… but maybe try disabling it in the game entirely to see what happens… or even enabling it at the driver level instead if you really must have aa?
Your player.log is also registering a crash… Can you look at the end of the player.log for the location of the crash report on your system and maybe include the error.log - there might be something else that is happening with LE and that info would help.
The dxdiag diagnostic section (end of the file) is also showing some crashes and general instability across a lot of different apps… Maybe you want to look at your “View Reliability History” and see if you can resolve some of those errors or if any of them point to some underlying issue on your machine that could be causing the problems…
I didn’t have the latest driver yet (471.96), installed that now.
The issue seems mostly fixed for now.
I had one more black screen in a 3hr play session, but I was able to fix it with porting to town and back.
I will try fiddling with the settings a bit more if it happens more often again.
Thanks again for the quick reply!
The crashing seems to be related to the UnityPlayer.dll (the game engine) and DirectX…
My gut feeling is that this could be the the GPU drivers… I would suggest you try the following:
You have updated to the D patch - so I would suggest you verify the game files again - just to be sure it installed properly. Test again after doing this to check if that was the problem.
For the GPU drivers, two steps here:
Roll back your GPU driver to something earlier (i.e. not the latest & not the one you were using before…
AND do a safe mode driver reinstallation (or use something like DDU)… this is the only way to ensure that your graphics drivers install properly… Just running a driver upgrade from Nvidia doesnt always work - especially if there are older files/files in use or corrupted files - sometimes the upgrade doesnt replace them properly… A safe mode installation will.
