I always get a black screen after entering the rift which appears after defeating the minions of the Immortal Emporer. Yulia opens the portal, I enter the portal, there is the “tunnel” animation and then there is the black screen. Did the fight now for around 10 times. Waited once for llike 5 minutes (and got me a coffee meanwhile). Turned all graphics down to very low and resolution to 1920 x 1080. And again a black screen.
The Black screen issues in game tend to be related to graphic card drivers & in-game settings. Sometimes people have also found that toggling the Display Mode (exclusive fullscreen etc) can also make a difference but not always. Most issues tend to happen when the game loads a new area e.g. like taking a portal.
Obviously it could also be a bug, but unless anyone can repeat the steps and get it then its more than likely something specific in your setup that causes the issue… E.g. I have never experienced this bug and must have done this sequence at least 10 times myself.
Please can you include your DXDIAG output & in-game settings file (le_graphicsmanager.ini)
Standard things to do:
Make sure your OS is patched and that there are no pending/failed updates
Make sure your GPU driver is recent (i.e. 2-3 Months)…
Make sure to verify the game files if you are using Steam.
Disable or do not run any other apps while testing LE… doesnt matter how irrelevant you might think they are, just dont run it while testing. This includes things like steam overlays etc.
Using those in-game settings, you should not be having the known performance related issues that LE currently has.
Your CPU obviously is MUCH faster in comparison to your GPU so you are likely to be experiencing a considerable amount of bottleneck related issues - i.e. your CPU is waiting for the GPU to catch up - Its hard to say how often this is happening, but I’d say its significant enough to possibly be noticeable in gaming - even at 1080p. From the specs of your system I would guess that you are struggling with availability/price of a newer GPU like the rest of us… I am unsure if this bottlenecking is possibly an issue with LE, but I cannot rule it out.
Your driver versions & OS version etc look ok.
As you are not using Steam, there isnt an easy way to verify the game files other than doing a reinstall… The standalone player doesnt usually suffer from a bad installation (in comparison to steam) but its not impossible for the beta game to get its knickers in a knot…
You are using Razer devices - please make sure that the Razer apps are all updated - there have been problems with older versions of the Razer software/drivers and Unity (the game engine).
On this same note: you said no other apps were started… its important to note that ANYTHING else running could cause issues - even something like keyboard software so anything that automatically launches when your system starts could be involved - there are known issues with things that are seemingly unrelated e.g. Citrix/Teamviewer that have caused problems with the game engine… All I am saying is that its important to make sure that 3rd party apps are not running - just temporarily while testing LE.
The diagnostic section of your DXDIAG (end of the file) has some items that could be related:
Radeonsoftware.exe has crashed at least twice… This is obviously part of your GPU drivers and is something that needs to be checked and fixed as it could definitely be the cause of the the Blackscreen issue you are having… It may require that you do a safe mode reinstallation of your GPU drivers (or use something like DDU) to ensure that your GPU drivers are correctly installed & have not become corrupted. You may even need to consider rolling back your driver version to an older one - new drivers are obviously intended for newer gpus and while older GPUs can benefit from the newer features/performance and its generally good to use newer drivers, sometimes they can introduce instability/issues on older GPUs…
svchost.exe_WdiSystemHost - Multiple crashes on ntdll.dll. This is part of the Windows Diagnostic system… Cannot say I have ever seen this message in a Dxdiag report before but logically if the diagnostic system in Windows is crashing, there is something odd happening on your system. I would suggest that you run Windows File System Checker to confirm that your system files are ok and check your View Reliability History to see what is failing on your system and fix it.
Last Epoch has two different errors on your system… Crashing with the UnityPlayer.dll (game engine) and Hanging without further errors. Obviously neither of these is good and the game is having more problems than a blackscreen issue. The unityplayer.dll error is usually related to gpu drivers/settings/corrupted game files etc. The hanging could be related to in game timeouts/freezes/crashes that were not handled by the game. Please can you check your current player.log for any report of a proper crash and indication of the creation of an error.log & crash folder - if it exists, it might have more info to work from… NOTE: the game cycles the player.log so its important to check for things/copy the log immediately after an error/bug happens - else the info could be overwritten.
as you stated there is no easy way to verify the game files if I’m not using Steam. I just did a reinstall and I could reach the next stage of the quest. Thanks for your help.
