Bad performance at random times/locations

In some fights i get extremely low fps (even below 15 with 0.5sec freezes no matter the settings)
The System works perfectly fine in all games i played and even underclocking did not change the problems in LE.
Reinstall did not help.

Is there anything known i can try to improve the situation?
If there is any other spec you want/need to see please let me know.

System Specs:
Cpu: Threadripper 1920x
Ram: 32GB 300mhz
Gpu: Rtx 3080 (running at 2040mhz out of the box settings)
Storage: 3 Nvme SSDs in Raid0 (9.8gbps reading with tons of iops)
OS: Windows 10 20H2

Hey… Welcome to the forum…

A 3080 - how the hell did you get one! Grrrr…

You didnt describe the situation but I am willing to bet you are experiencing one of the various fps drop moments in the game right now…

Your system is obviously fine. Although I doubt LE can benefit much from your threadripper cores/threads so the CPU is probably hobbled from providing the max performance it could vs something like my i5-7500. In fact, userbenchmark puts its gaming performance on par with the i5-7500. On lowest settings using 1080p on 1060/16gb/nvme I get roughly 60fps most of the time… 75fps (vsync) in town/quiet maps. It drops to 40-45 in busy moments and very seldom can drop to 20 fps if I dont watch out for known issues - see below.

Interestingly LE also CPU intensive right now so I am not sure if your 3080 not also hobbled in some way - i.e. I doubt it can actually get what it needs to maintain higher fps… Obviously the 3080 should be able to play this game at max without any issues but… other optimisation may be stopping it… I bet your CPU is twiddling its thumbs most of the time but the game cannot use it so its stuck… Interesting to see whats your CPU monitoring saying?

LE is not well optimised yet… The devs are improving it with every patch, but lets just say its got issues.

FPS problems can be caused by many things:

  • lots of mobs / mob pulls / mob wipes can slow things down dramatically - in fact, its easy to drop the fps into single digits with a mob pull & wipe. Probably exaccerbated by how LE seems to make mobs follow you indefinitely once aggro’d - some people say they get fps drops when running through maps.
  • lots of minions can slow things down…
  • certain skills - spamming poison pools or lightning blasts all over the screen (user skills or mob skills).
  • certain maps have inexplicable fps drops (better with the latest patch but still there).
  • there were also odd lag spikes (not only in battle but in town) in the last version, but the latest patch has addressed that (at least for me) but people are apparently still getting them.

Only thing I can suggest is limiting fps and changing graphic settings (*lol you should not have to do this on a 3080!) to give the system some headroom to smooth over the fps spikes? Maybe there is one particular setting that helps? Who knows…

i just got lucky with getting one i guess

the situation seems a bit random its fine in the city but in combat it randomly drops (no matter the amount of enemys) my build shouldn’t be a lag monster (bleed shurikens)

just checked my monitoring (medium settings):
Cpu; 20% (would have expected less no core above 50%)
Gpu: 35%
Ram: 60%
so i dont see a limiting factor there
limiting fps or reducing settings does not seem to change anything in regards of the drops
im playing in 1440p if that is strange in LE (some games are strange only in specific resolutions) please let me know.

Thanks for helping out

Maybe you are one of the unlucky ones suffering from the strange lag spikes… Cant really make any suggestions as its very likely to be something in the game optimisation… All I can suggest is what I do: play around the known FPS issues… i.e. I never do big mob pulls/wipes in LE and I try to stay away from the fps killer builds as much as I can (annoying but I can live with it for EA/beta).

Out of interest… The CPU at 20% - is LE using a limited number of cores/threads? I have never checked LEs use of multiple cores/threads (or read anything about it here on the forums) but if its like most games it doesnt use beyond a core or two and relies more on clock speed for performance - so my gut is hinting that maybe its maxing out a core or two when it hits those odd spikes and on average the CPU is only reading 20% - because the rest of the CPU is doing nothing… So on my system it maxes out the whole cpu when spiking and shows up as 90+% CPU utilisation, but on yours, because of the other cores/threads it shows 20%.

1440p shouldnt be the cause… There are community testers who run it at that res successfully - although none with threadripper systems that I recall.

Based on forums posts, I am getting an odd vibe that older AMD processors seem to be the ones that are reporting odd inexplicable fps issues but I sincerely doubt its related - I’d love a 5800X if I could get one so it better not be  . One thing is obvious, LE plays very differently on different spec systems… Sometimes strangely different - I can play fairly well with my old setup, but others with a system spec much faster struggle.

Heres hoping things like this smooth out closer to the official release - apparently not 2021 tho… :disappointed:. but hey… we can have fun in the meanwhile…

Oh yes… you may want to post your logs for the devs - they might look at it sometime and be able to get something from that…

were do i find the log file?

The highest used core is about 50% so it should not be the limiting factor (or the monitoring does not report if a secific action maxes out a core)

CPU… ok… just speculating then…
