Aspirational content should always feel 100% optional. Uber Abby does not feel that way

Last Epoch Judgement Paladin - Uber Abberoth kill tanking everything - YouTube

So you have the currently most overpowered broken build that lets you face tank Uberroth and you’re complaining that Paladin should be able to kill him?

There have already been 3 classes that managed to kill Uberroth. I haven’t checked lately, but maybe there’s more by now.

In any case, one thing i can appreciate is that the weaver tree can be completed without ubby (if not mistaken).

that is one step towards ubby being optional content.

Uber Aberroth IS optional. It shouldn’t be. IT IS.
The items uber drops are not BiS. These items are just good and provide helpful stats.
If you want the passive Immortal Vise provides for damage from rares and bosses,go for blood mage gloves.
Since you want Shattered Worlds’ permanent haste you have to earn it. That’s the item pool locked behind Uber Aberroth. If Uber didn’t have such loot it wouldn’t be optional. It would be pointless to encounter.
There is no build that won’t work without shattered worlds or immortal vise. Every build works without them.
Aspirational option in maxroll provides an extra method to discover the build’s potential WITH those items, but if you check it thoroughly you’ll see that every other gear is just higher in LP compared to the Endgame variants.
Perfecting it means more LP with Extra stats that your build needs and not in the items Uber drops.
There are builds that only use Shattered worlds for the Haste. If you don’t need the haste to try minmaxing even movement speed, it’s irrelevant. +1 to all skills can be provided by other relics. Attributes can be provided through higher LP. Perfecting your build means higher LP and not Uber items.
If you need shattered worlds for a build, make one that kills Uber and farm it to complete your build. If not,try farming a red ring with 2+ LP (which is way more difficult) to perfect your build if red rings is what you need for it. If it’s not on guides and it’s a self made build, it’s up to you to figure out what your build needs the most and not a guide on maxroll.

Same is true for regular Abby, dungeon bosses and most mono bosses.
Are all of those aspirational content then ?

With the possible exception of Julra (depending on what legendaries you need/want for your build & even then, I’m not sure whether there are any build enabling legendaries) & the mono bosses required to get through to empowered, yes.

EHG does build enabling uniques very very sparsely on bosses, but there are some examples where build enabling uniques are behind bosses.

Most notebly:
Flayer’s Pride
Aberroth’s Command
Shattered Lance Set
Dark Shroud of Cinders
Eternal Eclipse
Lich’s Set
Celestial Doom
Black Blade of Chaos
Wall of Nothing
Sacrifical Embrace
Gaspar’s Set
Reign of Winter
Yulia’s Path
Bane of Winter
Bhuldar’s Wrath
Herkir’s Vessel
Foot of the Mountain
Ashes of Mortality
Immolator’s Oblation
Pyre of Affliction

Many of these are avaialble on low tier dungeons and regular mono bosses, but there are some higher tier dungeons and Empowered Only Harbinger’s.

While its not the absolute top tier content its hard to get, but I won’t call it aspirational.

The point @MrCordian was trying to make (which I alluded to in the past as well) is that people claiming that Ubert Aberroth is gatekeeping them from putting their character together, because they don’t have certain items available to them unless they can defeat him, which is incredibly hard.

There are many many more bosses and content that have both buidl enabling items and “aspirational” items, but Uber Aberroth is multitudes ahrder than anything else in the game right now. Most of the other content that gives other simialr items is simply not that hard to complete and thus very few people feel gatekept by that.

Agree, but people are making those claims because Ubby is overtuned AF while everyone on forums parrots that “not all content is made for all players”.

Take away the top 4 builds and you can consider the others standard error (Llama, correct me if that’s the wrong term).

And the top 4 builds are to be nerfed next season. So if S3 doesn’t introduce new broken builds there will be 0 viable ones for Ubby … then you know what kind of threads the forum will be full of.

If regular Aberroth is difficult to handle you need changes in your build. Uber Aberroth is currently the Pinnacle Boss,Aberroth isn’t,which explains the items dropped. Still, Uber drops are not build-enabling which renders Uber an option, not a necessary encounter.

Thanks, next time read my post.

Several of those are just powerful uniques, they don’t change how a build plays or allow a build to exist, unlike Last Steps of the Living, for example.

TBF, it’s not. Uberroth is hard & it’s supposed to be hard & out of reach of most. That’s explicitly why he was created. It’s also why there aren’t any build enabling uniques dropped by him.

It’s not, I know what you mean but I’m apparently having a senior moment & can’t for the life of me think of the correct term…

Yeah, but no? I’m not sure, personally, if a particular build regardless of how skilled the player should be able to farm a boss who’s raison d’etre is to challenge players and be really freaking difficult. Given that there are 3 different people who killed him on a Bladedancer, that’s exceptionally impressive, no?

I wouldn’t be surprised if the figures from that chart, excluding the top 3, were in the ball park that EHG intended given what they’ve said about Uberroth. If that’s correct & the top 3 masteries/builds are nerfed & the numbers look similar to the chart in S3 will players complain? Of course! But given the intention behind Uberroth that outcry doesn’t mean he should be nerfed. Difficult stuff is, and should be, allowed to exist.

EHG is suprisingly soft in the top build nerfs, as can be clearly seen with Falconer, warlock and other examples.
And next season is likely to bring new overpowered builds as well, given EHG’s track record.

I disagree heavily, its not out of reach by most. its just so badly designed that it isnt a “only the most grinded and dedicated players beat this” its just a build meta check mark. “Can you google how to beat him? then he is doable in 10 hours on blue gear”

I think pretending its hard when builds are doing it in 7 seconds is wrong and highlights the shattering issues with the game.

and if you nerf them and then single digit players are beating him each season, he might as well not exist especially giving out items.

Content has to be realistic. At this rate might as well x100 his hp, okay no one can ever beat him in a billion years, good content right? like no, its a meme and a joke.

Devs said they did consider making him not be able to be killed by any build. Making him a sort of placeholder of sorts for the future.
They decided against it, though, but their intention is that only 1 out of 100 people beating Aby should be able to beat Uby.
And they did say “people”, not “builds”.

Which they kinda achieved, except for the broken builds where they overshot the mark (as usual).

This is really bad design and will continue to have these threads for years to come.

Why would you design content that is unbeatable? it serves literally 0 function other then to make people mald. its a false goal, and means there isnt actually a goal at all.

its like making empower have 1000x hp and damage “well someday someone will beat it haha”

Does anyone have any reason for how that is actually good design?

And there logic of “people” not “builds” is also wrong, because people have google, and id argue the instant any build is able to do it fairly simply, it will immediately go up online and that metric is now not hit, because now everyone who takes that build is doing it.

No, I specificlly named only Uniques that would enable a specific playstyle when building around them. There are a couple more that I havn’t listed which are a bit of a greyzone. But the ones I listed are all build defining or build enabling. You can always make the argument that some builds can be played in a very inferior version without some of them, but generally I just named the ones that enables certain ways to play.

What does Wall of Nothing enable? That was the one that called my attention mostly (I don’t usually memorize what they do, other than a few).
So far I’ve only viewed it as a defense piece. Kinda like Ravenous Voids, only not as generic. It’s something most builds can put on for extra survivability, nothing more. Or so I thought.

Shaman Maelstrom Stacking for Endurance Threshold (There is a Shaman exclusive passive that gives 20 Endurance Threshold per Maelstrom)

You can get hundreds of endurance threshold and ward decaythreshold with that.

Sure, but that’s just adding defense, like I said. It doesn’t really change how I play the game. I’ll still be using maelstrom with or without it in pretty much the same way, no?
Isn’t that like saying that Prism Wraps is build defining because it lets you leech? Or Titan Heart because it has DR?

I’m not trying to nitpick or be confrontational, I’m just trying to understand where you’re coming from with this, because my definition of build defining is that the build can’t work without it. Which is stuff like Aaron’s Will, Wraith helmet or squirrel helmet, etc.

EDIT: Isn’t Wall of Nothing, in a way, pretty similar to Immortal Vise?

Fair enough.

Are there any videos of that happening? I know I couldn’t & I can’t remember if you’ve said you’re not a particularly skilled player either.

Yes, but I’d argue that firstly those builds are clearly doing waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much dps, not that I don’t agree that the game doesn’t have issues.

Yeah, that’s fair, I’m with you on that vis-a-vis gear so why should bosses be any different?

But why? Why is the principle of aspirational content bad design?

It’s not meant to be unbeatable, it’s meant to provide players a challenge, such that only very skilled players can kill it. That’s the intention, at least.

I know this is a pointless argument (see, personal growth!!) but I disagree with that statement being applied to some of those uniques.

Yeah, and Flayer’s Pride & Sacrificial Embrace.

And if the unique enabled it to proc or cast something from the Maelstroms, I’d agree with you. But Maelstrom stacking isn’t exactly an unusual thing.
