Add cursor customization or allow use of system cursor

Current Behavior

Last Epoch currently does not offer the player the ability to customize the in-game mouse cursor, nor the ability to opt to use their operating system’s mouse cursor.

Desired Behavior/Suggestion

Add the ability for players to do one or more of the following:

  • Customize the size, color, etc. of the in-game mouse cursor.
  • Opt to use the system mouse cursor.
Such settings could be available either in the existing Settings > Gameplay menu tab, or a new Settings > Accessibility tab.

Reasoning

The reasoning for this suggestion is twofold:

  1. Last Epoch is a beautiful game with the potential for a lot of environmental detail, status effect, particle, spell casting, and other graphical effects/artifacts to be present on screen at any given time. It is easy during the course of playing the game to lose track of where your cursor is and end up in a bad position or target something unintentionally.
  2. Some people may have accessibility needs to enjoy the game at an equal level to others. A larger and/or differently colored cursor could help to address this need for those players.

Even if cursor customization is not added, the ability for a player to opt to use their operating system’s mouse cursor could also address this issue, since the cursor is customizable within the operating system’s configuration.

There are plenty of suggestions related to the mouse cursor.

Unfortunantely the way Unity works is that you can’t have individual players have their own custom cursors. They can change it for All players, but not have a setting for individual changes. There may be workarounds as discussed by some people, but as it stands this is the way it is.

Thanks for the reply! I checked around the forum a bit before posting, but didn’t find any posts specifically about this (apologies if I just missed them). I’m sure this was buried in some long, multi-faceted posts as well of which I admit I did not read too many.

It’s a shame, because this is a major deterrent from my enjoyment and ease of playing the game. Does the Unity restriction extend to enabling players to at least opt to use the system cursor instead? Apologies, I’m not a game developer nor familiar with Unity beyond knowing that it’s used for developing games.

Thanks again for your response!

Yolomouse is the frequently suggested workaround, you can get it fairly cheap on steam or there’s a free version on github apparently.

There are many such threads, but this is one of the latest, which also has a dev reply and an explanation on why this can’t be done with Unity until Unity decides to implement this feature:

Until then, the solutions are simply using windows settings if all you want is a bigger cursor or Yolomouse if you want a different colour/render.
Yolomouse is the only allowed addon that the devs let you use, so you can use it without fear of being banned.

Appreciate the replies, @DJSamhein and @Llama8. I’ll give Yolomouse a try as it appears to be the only real option for people with accessibility needs to be able to play the game without major frustrations. It’s a shame, becaues it’s a great game. While I doubt it will ever happen, I guess I’ll keep hoping Unity’s team decides to show their heads some sunshine and add this functionality at some point.

All, please consider this the close of my thread.
