Partner with a notably terrible business with a history of failures. Players get scared. they don’t buy supporter packs anymore because they don’t know if the game will be playable in 3 months. Profit crashes. New company comes in and demands more money making features. P2W is introduced. game collapses.
I truly hope you have it in contract writing that they cannot dictate decisions on your game nor fire you. This is a bleak outlook for a game i was growing to love even more than POE.
250 million and only 90% of which will go to 2 co-founders and a game director that are already fired because they don’t want or can’t be a good bosses. All dev team is still working and will get they paycheck when game release. I see no news like the Blizzard, when 400 employees were fired. I am on working class site. And when Krafton start firing regular workers from Unknown Worlds, I’ll change my mind. History has seen much more evil corps thank Krafton so i’ll wait and see what will be with LE and i hope it’ll be great.
96 million reasons why you sold EHG and none of them have to do with making the game better. I bought into Last Epoch within the first 6 months, before the game was changed to what it is now. Many of your player base did, and what have we gotten for our loyalty? We were sold out, thanks a lot, Jud. Greed destroys people every bloody time. Moneytization out of our arses like PUBG, way to go. Well, time to uninstall because I know, like many, what’s to come and it isn’t the future JUD promised us.
Nobody gives a shit either.
Krafton went into a contract. They agreed to it. If they didn’t properly work out their contract and now try to get out of it is their personal problem.
And if it went into the incinerator it would be the same anyway. Don’t wring yourself out of self-created obligations, it’s the slimiest of slimy things one can do, utterly and entirely disgusting.
Ah yes… comparing a pile of steaming shit with one were you’re actively drowning in.
You seem to enjoy rolling around in it… you know, there’s a myriad of decent developers and publishers out there… but sure, comparing it to one of the worst ones clearly goes a long way to prove a point, right?
So you still say ‘they’re evil’.
Mhmm…
Gotcha…
So why are you defending them then?
It doesn’t matter if they’re ‘a little evil’ or they’re ‘atrociously evil’… it’s still ‘evil’. You know… how about ‘not evil’ instead? Just… ‘decent’ is a good start. Many many developer studios out there which are, guess that’s asking for too much nowadays already?
What a shit decision. Gamers supported you through Kickstarter. Gamers supported you with MTX, because they want to support you as a (semi) independent studio. I did. If you had financial problems, maybe the gamers could be of help again. But no, you sold yourself, us gamers and the studio out. You really think the world is better out this way? Big greedy corporations? Apparently.
Judd. I dont think u realize what ur say by saying this. This is not good at all.
Iv been around since the day LE dropped in EA. I love the game. But krafton??? Tbh man u made a HUGE mistake signing a deal with them. By saying this. It means u and EHG as a whole no longer have the power to do things ur own way. Krafton does that includes firing devs including u.
Judd tbh u should have done ur research (which i doubt u did) on who krafton actually is as a company not just go off of what they told u in a business meeting. Judd ur a marketing expert and this is ur first foria into the game development space. As a marketing expert u of all people should know they where marketing them selves to u when u approached them. Aka selling them selves to u. Of all people u should have been able to spot that.
Honestly judd from looking at all forms where players talk about LE. This announcement has caused alot of trust u guys at EHG have worked hard to build up. To be flushed down the toilet. They have a bad reputation which should have been taken into account not just what they can do for EHG.
Tbh seems u care more about lining ur pockets now than making a passion project.
This person said it well. Its mind blowing u dont see a problem with this statement.
I was fine with Last Epoch competing with smaller games, and I don’t think anyone is going to argue that more money for EHG to make the game they want is a bad thing. I do think people care about where the money comes from though… good luck, Judd.
Again, you are leaving the part out where Krafton is directly responsible for the delay. They removed parts of the game on purpose so they could justify the delay and avoid the payout. This has nothing to do with “hating big companies” and everything to do with this company in particular(Krafton) being hot garbage.
good bye last epoch! Im deeply dissapointed EHG you sold your game and your soul to Krafton, such a shame. Its sad that i have to watch a passion project made by labour of love turn into nothing else but hunger and greed for money. We had high hopes but you betrayed your fanbase! This game is lost forever!
This is an absolutely horrible decision for your players and this game. Words are meaningless, both from Krafton and now from you. They said verbatim, literally word for word, what you said when they purchased Unknown Worlds. Now look at what their actions are showing. Every single time this type of acquisition happens, it turns out to be the worst possible outcome for the players. Players that funded your game for years mind you. You provide two seasons, then cash out.
It was a good run, I look forward to seeing how many years this takes to crash out.
The concern here voiced by everyone is extremely valid, especially with the history of the publisher. But I would also like everyone to at least give the Last Epoch team a chance. If the quality, content, and the magic of the EHG team remains the same, there is absolutely nothing to worry about.
I believe that this step was necessary for the company to even survive, especially with the current state of the industry and costs. So they either could’ve not went this route and just waited to see what would happen and eventually have to shut down Last Epoch entirely, which would’ve been more catastrophic for the players, or, go with this approach, and grow Last Epoch and allow EHG to do more.
All in all, I’d suggest we take a step back, let EHG do their cooking and show us that this isn’t a big deal after all. If future updates and seasons proof that things are good, we got nothing to worry about.
