Itâs definitely not borderline impossible lmao, itâs more like companies donât want to pay for server capacity they donât need so they have the minimum amount necessary. And thatâs usually fine, except when youâre launching your game and you know thereâs gonna be more people than normall

Exactly this right here. The game industry is supported by the constant white knighting of a minority of âgamersâ that have been conditioned into thinking that this level of incompetence at launch after launch is just normal. It isnât. Itâs 2024. Spin up a few extra freaking servers, and stop saving pennies at every turn!

In my experience, this is likely from people with little to no experience in cloud infrastructure having to maintain and manage cloud infrastructure. Iâve seen âchief architectsâ at startups who donât know IaC manually wiring it up in AWS.
EHG also were originally passionate ARPG fans who decided to build a game, so who knows how much they know vs winged vs outsourced. Outside of EHG as they are likely a special exception due to the above, I think the game industry likely has a skill issue as well because why work there getting paid 1/2 as much for more stress like this. Add to this retention issues where people get burnt out or move to another company, so the knowledge on how to handle this leaves each company by the time they launch a new game as many of them are different teams with different team members with multi year development cycles.
It doesnât get easier, but hopefully one day youâll find a new best buddy.

Yeah it should be noted that playing an offline character can not become a online character afterwards. A lot of people will think otherwise and be disappointed.

Disappointing for sure and expected better. Have not been able to get past character screen a single time. This is a Wednesday afternoon, what is the game gonna look like at peak times? Unacceptable.
