Dude, a company of 100 people can’t make a customizable cursor in the most used engine with the most resources. Both DLSS and customizable cursors have been done to death in Unity engine, it’s not impossible and neither is it hard.
What Unity makes really really hard to do cleanly is having a customized cursor for the same action that is different from each player.
I don’t know where you got this from, but that’s a blatant lie.
It’s been discussed to death already. And shown to death already. You can search the forums if you want. You can search Unity forums if you want as well.
Basically, it’s easy to change the cursor to be a different cursor. But then everyone gets the exact same cursor.
To change the cursor during runtime (which is what you need to have a customizable cursor) there is only a way to do that and that will cause huge lag. So there’s no clean solution.
Yes, you’re definitely an armchair programmer being angry that real programmers aren’t magical.
What’s in the video is already in LE. It’s why your cursor looks the way it does and doesn’t look like the stock Unity cursor.
If you make it with an action game and there is no cursor lag, sure. That’s always been the issue and the reason why you’ll find no real examples of a Unity game with cursor options on their settings.
The embedded pre-processed cursor (which is a custom cursor, not a customizable one) is efficient and doesn’t cause lag in a game that already does thousands of calculation per second.
Changing cursors at runtime (which requires reading it also at runtime multiple times) is what causes the lag.
It’s not a cop out. It’s the reality of what Unity does. There have been countless unity threads about this and it can’t be done cleanly.
If creating a customizable cursor was easy EHG would have already done it. Not only because it’s an easy win, being something that players have been asking for a long time, but also because it would allow them to sell cursor MTX.
If you can deliver a system where every/any random player gets to choose what cursors they want for whatever reason (including just using the default) without it being forced upon them (ie, everyone has to use a bright green cursor or bright pink or whatever) & it’s actually trivial without Unity adding the functionality, then sure.
As DJ said, this topic has been argued to death for years & it gets randomly picked up every so often by random people that think they know better than Unity devs. Even Kulze eventually accepted that this is a Unity issue & for some reason Unity haven’t added the ability to do this without re-inventing Yolomouse in their game.
The question was if we’ll ever get DLSS to begin with. Interesting how that gets ignored, is that impossible too?
Btw you can replace Windows cursor at runtime and then switch it back on losing focus, that’s if HW cursor is a must. Why not just do software cursor? Performance? Brother, this is Last Epoch, what performance. Being 1 frame late when the game drops frames anyway isn’t a big deal. It can be an option, surely an extra options setting isn’t an impossible task? Is it?
Also DLSS? I swear that people like you making excuses for the devs are what’s killing the game and one of the biggest reasons it won’t get past 100k Steam concurrents ever again. Smh
You guys are also responsible for this game bleeding players. This game has tons of issues and whitewashing them with cope isn’t helping.
Because the performance would be even worse than it is at the moment & people would complain about it & (probably) demand it be removed.
So because your desired thing hasn’t been added (tbf, they did upgrade to a more recent version of Unity which supports it) you’re blaming other people who know more shit than you for the declining population because we have all teh powahz.
It does, I/DJ aren’t. Check some of my posts from the past year or two I’m 80%-90% less (this is multiplicative with other modifiers) white knight-y than I used to be. But if you’re going to bring up old shit that’s been explained years ago while not understanding what the problem is & act all “bruh, I did this in a few mins, it’s totally possible” then yeah, it’s going to get mentioned.
Yeah, performance took a dip and I got a first PC lockup in year doing the beast mini dungeon. Rolled back to Studio drivers, but I don’t think this game will survive long after the expansion comes out. Rip
