Coming from d4 and playing LE today to see what this game is like I have noticed there is a ton of polishing left for this game.
Targeting feels very weird. So many times my abilities will target random breakables over enemies.
Some abilities feel unresponsive.
The menus feel bad to navigate through.
Etc.
But my big gripe is controller support.
While it does work I feel so often i have to use my M&kb in order to do things like equip gear, sell items, move items, etc. Now yes you can do all of those things, but its a massive pain. Like selling is a pain in the ass on controller. keyboard its hold shift and right click to sell. controller you cant, so you have to hit x and drag the item to the vendor. really surprised you cant just be at a vendor and hit x to sell or something. Same with equipping items. have to hit x then drag to your item slot. just a massive pain.
Now i know you could keybind a ton on your controller to do more, but seems like the could just do a lot more polishing to just improve the baseline controller support. If it remains like it is, not sure if im going to keep playing.
That being said, I dont think it will ever be ādoneā if that makes sense.
While D4 is a live service game, its got much more of a traditional game vibe.
Id argue even a game like PoE thats been around for 10 years feels unpolished in many aspects. And thats just how live service games work, they have a constant workload of stuff just being not quite perfect.
So aslong as everyone tempers expectations on what is essentially release or not, an ongoing work, it will be fine!
I totally agree with your controller points. Disappointed me tbh but have stuck with it & got better with it over time. At first, had to use mnk whenever using menus & interface & controller while actually playing the game. After playing several hours today, I was using controller more so while interacting with skills, inventory, etc. Also, I also noticed some minor bugs to which is the reason Iām in this forum-looking for a known issues thread lol.
There will certainly be improvements come 1.0 but I suspect it will leave you disappointed. Realistically, alot of the polishing are detailing work which will take years more to polish and refine (just as it did for POE).
The devs have their hearts right and focused on the fundamental cores of ARPG systems in LE. Hopefully, they get enough support from fans to sustain them until they have the resources and time to really polish the game to AAAA standards.
Iāve been seeing both targetting complaints and controller issues a lot on the forum so I wanted to pop in and try to help like in the other threads.
For targeting issue you can turn off the āMove to Targetā option in General settings. This should help make the gameplay feel smoother as you will attack in place instead of having your skills drag you along to whatever the auto target is locked on to. The auto target system is quite janky at the moment, and I found it either slowed down gameplay or got me outright killed in a few instances. The issue cropped up when skill canceling and attack while moving was reworked. It looks like they are trying to fine tune targeting as an accessibility option, but it isnāt quite there yet so I would play with it off.
For Controller Support selling. You can use the RT and LT back triggers to switch between merchant or stash windows to your inventory, then use the D-Pad to move to an Item you wish to Sell or Store. Then simply hit X and the item will quick sell / stash. If you are using a playstation controller that would be L2 / R2 to shift focus windows and Square to sell. No more dragging necessary.
You can pretty much do everything a keyboard and mouse can do at the moment outside of chat, but the UI still doesnāt list some of the functionalities. Iām hoping 1.0 will flesh out the UI better to avoid this confusion.
Agreed. I feel like some constructive feedback is necessary, and to add to this performance needs to improve. No reason my 4080 canāt get 240 frames with medium/low settings for everything. I turn it to ultra quality and the game looks better and the performance is similarā¦ something isnāt quite right.
1.0 will come with basically one yearās worth of patches/improvements. You can already see marked improvements in graphics/lighting from the stuff they posted preparing for 1.0. So I expect that the experience today vs the experience in 2 days to be very very different in regards to this.
Here is hoping, dude! Like I said, I turn the settings down and the game runs worse than when I have it cranked on ultra, it seems very bizzare. Like the frames will be higher on the lower settings but it feels less smooth compared to being on ultra despite the frames being higher on medium/low.
