Why only 5 buttons?

Well, I didn’t consider the movement slot an actual skill slot because it’s limited in its functionality. More like a glorified utility hotkey similar to the potion or time shift hotkey. But now that I think about it, two skills on mouse buttons plus one free on keyboard and the movement hotkey would be even better.

That’s the whole point of my post, providing some opposition to the initial suggestion of having more slots. I wasn’t 100% serious and the idea behind it wasn’t fully developed. When Mike wrote we should discuss some more I knew I had to.

I’ve played these games in excess of 40 years now and have never known a single ARPG/CRPG/etc. to give unlimited number of skills. There has to be a limit somewhere and I think 5 is a good balance here.

More than 40 years?
I guess that’s true, Pacman didn’t have unlimited skills IIRC.

(Just teasing, I am in the “5-skills-is-great-because-it-forces-you-to-make-decisions-on-your-build” camp. And I vote against special movement skill button, some builds are good without and it is an interesting challenge to work around.)

Yeah, I see where the teasing comes in. “These games” reference computer games going all the way back to playing on an Amiga.

I think my biggest take reading this thread for me personally is that movement skills just need to be more varied, for example I love playing sentinel currently because you actually have quite a few movement options, Lunge offers you defensive utility or aggressive smite/jav procing.

But you also can use jav as a movement skill/buff which feels really nice to use, or shield rush for moving very fast.

All of them feel interesting and you have ample choice to move around. Heck you can even convert smite to a movement skill if you want!

Meanwhile mage and necro have bland teleports that can proc low cost spammy type moves or provide extremely small amounts of stats that you dont want to rely on anyways.

I dont think adding an extra slot for movement is the correct choice, rather just expanding the design space of movement options for classes would be far more interesting and fun if more demanding from a design consideration.

Totally agree about teleport and transplant, both are on the rework radar. Those classes are also missing a mastery still.

Definitely would like more movement skills and the refreshes on some of the existing ones. I also don’t advocate for an additional slot (or replacing one) with a movement only skill. I like the game the way it is, but if the devs made a change like that at some point in the future I’d be fine with it.

I had to check, I hadn’t realised that it’s been nearly 35 years since the A500 was released. Which makes me feel old. :frowning:

The necro/lich and sorc/spelblade are missing mastery skills? Both base classes appear to be missing a 5th skill unlocked by passive points which is what I assume you meant.

No, I mean runemaster and warlock.

The more I think about a “movement skill slot” on the bar, the more I see it as a “Warpath slot”.
Or Void Cleave. Those have the “movement” tag.
So I guess no, it does not make sense to have a movement skill slot. The movement skills in Last Epoch are far too rich for this.

Some of them are too rich, some definitely need a good hard reworking.

Yeah, I was on the C64 before that. Got the A500 as soon as it came out. lol

the game sure is slow , i feel it needs hotkeys for sure. Fall asleep going through the storyline and it is slow paced and far too easy, movement would help people keep interest no one is playing this game for the main campaign that is for sure. Just get attacked for providing feedback here though then banned from the discord haha, support an indie game and get attacked by community and banned for criticizing it a bit.

You keep saying that you can’t have a movement skill and because of it the game is slow, yet on every build you play you have the option to use a movement skill. I’ve been making build guides for over two years now and almost every build I make uses a movement skill because I like to go as fast as possible in these kinds of games (plus, it makes dealing with telegraphed attacks a lot easier) . If you want a movement skill, you can always find a way to work it into the build. In fact, the ‘meta’ of this game is having a movement skill. High corruption and arena pushes require the player to avoid taking lots of damage, which is almost impossible to do consistently without a movement skill. Movement skills are your friend in LE, and the 5 skill slot limitation doesn’t negatively impact that.

By the way, people disagreeing with you is not the same as people attacking you. These forums are meant for people to express their opinions about the game (same goes for discord). I don’t think I’ve seen anyone attack you, they’re just giving a contrary opinion to yours.

As far as I can tell, he’s playing a minion Necro & wants to have 5 specialised minion skills, which is entirely his prerogative, but, IMO, you can’t then complain that the game is too slow because you’re not using a movement skill if you choose to not use a minion skill. It’s like complaining that mobs do too much damage if you make the choice to not take any defensive affixes/skills/passives/etc.

I don’t know about discord, but in the forums you’ve been posting a lot, almost all your posts are negative things, mostly repeating the same thing again and again in very offensive terms. Sometimes in completely unrelated threads.
This is NOT “criticizing a bit”. And completely unconstructive.

People have tried to give you polite and well argumented explanations, you just repeat once more what you already said, without giving any new arguments.
Surprisingly, I haven’t seen anyone “attacking” you (this post could be seen as the first one I suppose). They disagree and try to explain why in perfectly decent discussions, but you won’t listen.

Spot on.

There’s a term for what is happening here, and it’s DARVO.

Interesting. Never knew that theres a specific term for this kind of behaviour.

I disagree with the majority , no need to ban me from discord for complaining about a lack of buttons. Nor was there a need for a bunch of fanboys to start swearing at me and getting angry because i do not like their game. Darvo is not what is happening what is happening is this place is run by yuppies who can not handle criticism. Yes I do not like the buttons and i will never agree with someone on this, the hotkeys should be fully customizable like any other game .
This Happens all the time , i criticze a game fanboys react and get mad and i turn into the enemy. I wont be posting anymore as this forum is on a timer i have been banned from discord and i really dont care for this community anyway. Good luck but the game needs more buttons and a better story or it wont stand a chance against juggernauts like POE and Diablo , even Grim dawn is far more popular. This game has potential, but as of now doesnt stand a chance
