I keep getting those kick-ass pieces of gear but except for zooming in and trying my best to look at them, there’s no way outside of character selection screen to enjoy my character’s look. Anyone else think this is something that should be improved? This is something that D4, POE2, Grim Dawn and other ARPGs have mostly always had. I think that would be a quick win to spend time on. Anyone else?
I’m assuming he means the fact that when you access your inventory in GD you can see a model of your character in that window, with all your gear equipped. Basically a way to see what you look like without having to zoom in-game.
The thread is literally titled “Why no character preview on inventory screen?”.
And he did say he has no way to see how his character looks outside of zooming and character selection screen.
I think it really is about seeing your character model in the inventory (or character, possibly) window. Can’t say I disagree with this, though I think this would go way down the priority list.
GD did it first, though. At least, I don’t think other ARPGs did it before them.
It seems you really were referring to PoE specifically. I thought that was just an oversight, since PoE’s character or inventory screens don’t have a model of your character. It’s kinda similar to LE’s.
And you are all right, that’s exactly what I meant. Instead of zooming in on the character which is a clumsy way of previewing my character since I cannot really rotate it etc.
I’m referring to most arpg nowadays, they mostly “all” do this. It’s a clever way to make you appreciate your new gear and I would also even say, to convince people to buy MTX to show off, etc. I think it’s a win-win for the dev and the players.
I agree, D1, D2, POE all don’t have it. But D3, D4, Grim Dawn, POE 2 (with controller) do and I think it’s something I couldn’t live without anymore. It’s great to get sick gear and be able to look at it properly imo
lol, yep, i’m wrong. I read it as, “why no char preview on screen”.
Agree, as mentioned, I was kind of annoyed with Blizzard at first, but then I started liking it and it made me more likely to buy MTX. So, even though I think it’s low for players, probably something EHG should consider based solely on my reaction, especially given that I almost never buy cosmetic MTX.
Torchlight 1, another ancestor, also let you see your character in inventory screen. Can’t launch it to screenshot, sorry, won’t work on my system right now.
Probably many others, this is a fairly common feature since forever.
Btw. here’s a quick fix idea. What if the game simply zoomed in on the character model? And unzoomed back to previous zoom when you close the inventory.
Like this guy from reddit did:
I still think viewing your char while loading or zoning achieves what the OP is talking about better. It’s full screen and I’m not doing anything else/can’t do anything else. If I’m looking at inv/char screen I’m looking at gear or stats.
I can’t believe I’m actually advocating for what is essentially an advertisement, but it did actually make me buy the cool spiritborn electric boogaloo outfit in D4 (secret shame).
