Why are the best lightning builds forced into Cold?

I love the Shaman fantasy idea. I really wanted to play as a lightning god style of play. However, the best scaling node for “lightning” is to convert it to cold and then use warcry to boost that cold by 250%. There are no other nodes that provide that kind of damage boost for just 5 points. I think it’s a cool node, but why aren’t there any for lightning, or fire, or physical? Each of these could be “Unique” and lock out the other nodes so that players can’t stack them on top of each other. I know Shaman is in the process of some modifications and I hope it’s headed in the right direction, but I just feel like it’s a bit pigeon-holed into very specific playstyles to be effective.

This is across classes.
Void and Cold are overabundant. Especially Void damage type. Not just in abilities, you have choices, and choices, and where some classes lack in ability choices, you still have the overabundant Unique item that give bunch of bonuses to void damage, for all weapon types.

I love pure lightning builds, but it’s so limited.

I’ve been working on making a lightning shammy in HC of all things but it is seeming like I could maybe make a viable build, I’m just concerned that it won’t have enough defenses to make it much further sadly.
