Why are some game improvements online-only?

Playing both on and offline I noticed you made the game better in several ways without putting those improvements into offline. For example, no loading screen and faster green portal casting when you leave a mono mission feels so nice online, but offline its still clunky.

Or some rare mob visuals are improved online but not offline.

Will you merge the two branches at some point or will offline devolve into some kind of backwater while online gamers get all the cool stuff"?

Could you show the difference with screenshots or a video?

not specifically but there’s a bubble around a monster, I think that cannot be dmged from close range… I only see it in offline I think

And there’s an aura for ā€œallies take less damage in the areaā€ that I think only shows online.

I could be wrong on that one.

The monolyth clumsiness in the offline where portal has a 1s casting animation though is very obvious and easy to see. Maybe that specific improvement could not be implemented offline because it might brick existing saves somehow? Because it’s like the monolyth area itself functions differently in the new online version…?

Also, holy crap, I just realized. Online version has improved, better feeling sound effects during crafting. What’s up with that?

From what I uinderstood the offline and online version are somehow more like two different games, with shared assets.

Seems most of the performance improvements are for both version though.

If I go offline, I miss the instant load of the echoes mini-hub, yeah.

Do you happen to know of any other differences?

Some skills are wonky on MP but fluid in offline, some people talked about some movement skills, my experience is with Sync Strike and Shift.

Weapon attack speed (the base number of the weapon itself) is not working now in MP.

Seems the character sheet in MP has some issues with values: for example, if you use the skill to cap glancing blows it doesn’t show the 200% dodge into glancing.

In MP the did something to some maps, and you could get stuck with movement skills. I’m not sure if it’s a map thing or a movement skill thing though. In the emperor of corpses map there’s a spot at 7-8 o clock from center you cannot move into and you can get stuck with shift anyways (personal experience).

Interesting, thank you. I wonder why they separated certain systems entirely from its offline counterpart.

I’m guessing they had an issue with netcode that couldn’t be fixed easily so they just built a new netcode-friendly version of the problematic thing and put it into the online play?

Yeah, that is also my guess.
