Instead of reset, why not launch a competitive mode for players to compete directly or indirectly against each other? The game does not need to be reset. If they put in a soft cap system it would be more than enough to avoid powercreep. Create game modes where players fight for loot and chests scattered across the maps, even if they cannot attack each other directly like in true PVP. A competitive PVP/PVE mode can easily be created and this would be 1000x better than a reset, as with a soft cap system the difference between players would be determined by skill first.
If you really believe that creating a healthy PVP environment is something as easy as making a cycle reset, I really don’t know what to say to you.
The game is currently completely balanced (or unbalanced) around PVE content only, so if they ever manage to provide a PVP mode, it will certainly take a long time implementing, testing and debugging stuff to work properly in player vs. player.
Also, all kinds of side/optional content are not their priority right now, since they’re still working on implementing core game system and mechanics.
In fact, they can create a game mode where players are placed on the same map and compete for loot from mobs and chests, but they cannot attack others like a kind of competitive event without direct pvp
Cycle reset has nothing to do with powercreep.

There are many examples in the video why that would be a bad idea.
Edit: Now that being said a pvepvp idea did just pop into my head this morning. Players 1vs or x vs x start out on the same map but opposite mirrored sides with basic level # characters. They have to battle the mobs and navigate the environment to an arena. In the arena it would be team vs team or 1 on 1 with just what you got in the way there. I know this was done in another game I just can’ t remember.
