When do you all start breaking down gear instead of selling?
Selling gear isn’t worth it. The amount of time you lose by picking them up, portaling to town and selling isn’t worth the gold it gives.
Shatter stuff if you have enough shattering runes and the gear has good affixes you don’t need. In monos you’ll probably have enough runes (or gold to buy runes from the vendor) and you can set your filter for desirable affixes to shatter, like +level to skills and other rare ones.

I shatter stuff like + to a skill, or hybrid health (very rare), or affixes that I use for my builds that are on crap items.
For those that don’t know, every time you see a vendor buy up their runes of shatter for 2k each. and in no time you’ll have a lot of them.

I believe there is a filter rule you can create, or enable if you have dowloaded a filter from lastepochtools, that will highlight items that are prime shattering candidates. As already mentioned that would usually be desirable less frequent shard like health and hybrid health or the affixes that would be highlighted as rare if you have that turned on in the filter.

Eventually you will get enough runes of shattering from drops/purchasing from vendors that you don’t need to worry too much about running out, but the best time to use them is for rare runes (class specific or hybrid health) or runes you really need but are just having bad luck with (hello flat void damage rune, my old friend).
Only thing I sell is Uniques if they aren’t better than one I already had (always keep at least one copy of each, you never know), and arena keys once I have at least 20.

I literally just started thinking about this as well… I set a filter that shows me any useful affixes bright green that are T4 or higher… so I am getting the most out of shattering. Doesn’t take long to set the filter up, easy search feature while doing it.
