Been trying out way out builds that have necessitated rolling a few more alts (not something I typically do once I have one of each class) and I was wondering what everyones favourite levelling gear was?
To put a cap on the items (and keep it for levelling rather than end game), lets take an arbitrary limit of a level 30 item requirement and preferably not a legendary item.
My current favourite for levelling is definitely Bo’s Anarchy. Obviously for Rogue, but I cannot say that I have found anything for another class that is so blatantly OP for early play and levelling until you respec to your final build.
Firestarter’s torch is by far my favorite leveling unique
It works with every class and it carries you to early mono quite easily (sentinel, sorc) due to spreading flames having 140 base dmg and it spread sooo well
This one is kind of hard to beat because it does work so well.
For a less OP boost though, for really early levels like getting you through the Ruined Era campaign, I like Lessons of the Metropolis because its a quick easy burst of good speed along with a nice damage reduction bonus if you’re moving ‘fast’ through the leveling process.
I like anything with movement speed, so my first unique’s are the rings made for minions that have ms on em. Cant remember the name despite having 1100 of them in my stash.
Essentially what you do is use an AOE with a long cooldown to 1-shot most enemies. This works especially well on Rebuke with Sentinel; so well you can ride it to level 55-60 without really itemizing for other abilities. You can switch this strategy over to Void Cleave at a certain point and ride that the rest of the way to 100. The only caveat being, you may be a little puny against bosses in Monolith. (You could do the same with Judgement, but I’ve found that fire / damage over time works better for it.)
Interesting also is the fact that this item synergizes extremely well with Suloron’s Step. You won’t see or be able to equip Suloron’s Step until much later on, but if you get a hold of this item, you might end up getting to cause massive damage by combining both items with moves like Earthquake and Void Cleave.
One of the other tricks with this is that it makes it really easy to grind Arena Echo’s in Monolith, so there are points at which it’s fairly beneficial to kill all the enemies and then quit out before the final wave ends and do it again, 4 or 5 times to gain a level. This could also be true in Key Arenas, but I didn’t mess with them much. I suspect the waves come a little too fast for that to work out well, but I admit I haven’t tested it.
The other fun thing about this is that there are a lot of skills on different classes that are able to take advantage of this. Earthquake again is a good ability for this, if you can time it properly. If you spec it to do the initial hit more than once, each hit crits due to Gambler’s Fallacy’s effect, though the final hit ends up hitting for about 75% of the total damage for whatever reason, so you really need that last hit to land against whatever it is you really want to die.
Try this out with your build and make sure you don’t miss out on it!
I’ve been leveling a few hammer throw sentinels recently so my favorite combo has been Thorn Slinger + Vortex Pennant.
It’s not one item but they’re both level 12 so you can equip them at the same time. The combo gives +2 to hammer throw so at the time I equip them I get the orbit and one -1 mana cost node and it’s a breeze from there. You can even go dual-wield later on if you have good roll on the increased physical damage.
Yup, it helped me out a lot leveling my characters. Hopefully they don’t haul off and nerf it now that I’ve told you all about it, haha.
As an aside, my runner up item for leveling would be Isadora’s Tomb Binding. While it’s a Set item rather than a Unique, this item is extremely useful. It provides a huge amount of survivability to various classes / specs. It’s that much better if you’re running necrotic damage. And the required level is only 19, which means the armor value it provides at the level you can equip it is massive. I recommend holding on to it if you get one and using it for leveling.
Id wager most people dont, I had like 50 of em so I decided to finally read the item so I could dumpster. Thats when I learned I had 36ms just sitting there for maybe years, oops
Okay, hope this isn’t too highjacky of a response.
I dropped a 4LP Jelkhor’s and a 3LP as well so I figure it was time for me to do level up a new Marksman to try that out. I have found I like leveling a character for a build, especially using skills I haven’t used before, because it helps me experiment and dork around.
To start off before I decided to take your advice and go with shuriken and Bo’s Anarchy. I actually had a 2LP one but my RNG sucked and it ended up given me the two suffixes (ignite/poison). Meh.
But holy moly is it fun. I took the extra shuriken nodes and the upper left track with chance for more and throw 360 degrees. That and shift with shuriken toss and I port into a screen and it clears everything but some of the more hefty enemies. Using puncture as my boss killer.
As long as I am here, you never have to worry about high jackery cause I promise you I have done much worse, hell you are still talking about items! I once turned a Primalist topic into a ssd thread, you good!
glad you like it… It really is a great rogue levelling item - the ability to clear everything so quickly and for so many levels is really great when you know you just wanna get to the point to try your “real idea” as fast as possible. Alleviates a little of the boredom of rolling alts for me.
