So, just started playing this game with a necromancer: Skeleton Mage, Sumon Wraith, that kinda stuff. I’m level 74 now and still using the set wand I found in the first few hours of playing (Pebbles’ Femur).
I noticed that minion mods are very rare - or maybe even nonexistent - on 1H weapons like wands and scepters. The Pebbles’ Femur at least has “100%+ Increased minion melee damage”.
Are there any better options in the game? Or should I go 2H, since some of the staves I’ve seen had high minion modifiers? On the other hand, I don’t want to loose my offhand Catalyst.
You can roll minion phy and minion spell dmg as suffix and the adaptive spell dmg is nice, if you using any spells to support you minions.
Other than that 1H + 2H Axes and Swords and Staves can also roll minions stuff.
You can combine 1H Weapons those with a catalyst which also has minion affixes.
Or just take a shield for your own defense.
I agree with you. The changes to Sceptres and wands made it, that sceptres offer less damage potential now.
On my Necro I’m still using a legacy wand (with t5 minion damage and t5 minion physical damage) because it offeres more damage potential than the Sceletal Sceptre despite having that nice implicit (that has lower range than that t5 minion damage affix you could craft on weapons previously).
If you specialise in either physical or spell damage minions as a necro, you have only one single useful prefix on a weapon.
Imho there need to be some more minion affixes for weapons.
But for your question: I’d stick with 1h Sceletal Sceptre and Catalyst/Shield offhand. I prefer Shields as you can get minion health on it and some defenses that can be useful.
