What is the purpose of a waypoint in a quest echo?

So I was playing through one of the Monoliths, gathered up 50 stability and unlocked the first echo. Clicked on the echo on the left hand side of the screen and started it up. First thing I see when I run into the quest echo is a way point. I click on the way point and a box pops up that says travel. It takes me back to the timeline. I go back to my monolith timeline, and try to click into my quest echo, but I can no longer enter as it classified my original echo as a failure, and reduced my stability.

Was there something I was supposed to do in the timeline associated with the quest echo?
Should I have failed the quest echo?
Should I only be able to visit the timeline after I finished the echo?

I m confused how this all interacts with each other (or if it even does)
Is this just an inconvenient way to lose out on the stability?

it sucks that you lost some progress, but the new system is pretty forgiving so you’ll be back there in no time. it seems like they probably reused a campaign area and neglected to take out or deactivate the waypoint. normally you should only encounter waypoints on the “starter island” for each monolith, not within echoes. so in the future if you see one in an echo, don’t interact with it.

which timeline was it? if you can remember the timeline and which echo it was, it could help the devs remove or deactivate it so it doesn’t cause this problem for others in the future.

The loss does not bother me too much, I play hundreds upon hundreds of hours in games this 3 minute bump will not do much. I also agree the changes they made to the web was a really great change, and I cannot wait to see how they use it in the future.

I was mostly wondering if there was something I was missing, maybe a piece of the game I did not understand. But your explanation makes sense, and I appreciate you taking the time to reply and look into it for others.

Should this move over to the bug forum then? I will get back in there to continue the journey, see u in the timeline…soon.

Also forgot to add the zone,

lvl 80 monolith → fall of the empire → Voidscarred Necropolis.

Rest well

i’m not sure if it qualifies as a bug report, but since waypoints appearing in echoes is undesirable and unintended, it seems close enough. like i said before, just make sure you give them enough info to find it. screenshots and timeline/echo/quest names will help a lot.

you might also have some luck with the #ask_the_devs channel on the official discord, they are very active and respond to questions as often as they can.

I think it should be a bug since I don’t believe that monolith quest echoes should have waypoints.
