What is the confidence level that they can get the performance improved in the final stages of the development of the game? These games need to be fluid to be fun.
Given that Iâve never had any performance issues of any kind despite having a 4 year old machine, my confidence level is pretty high.
Only the devs can answer a question like this but in my opinion & experience helping out on the tech side, Iâd say that its pretty goodâŚ
Performance improvements have happened many times over the last year (squirrelled away in normal content patches) and hotfixes for performance issues have happened very quickly.
The key for me is the Multiplayer version - they have made substantial changes to the game with performance in mind around MP so until they drop that version its hard to say how much of an improvement they have made.
The other side of this is that they are using the Unity Game Engine 2019 LTS⌠so any performance improvements they implement are obviously going to have to happen within the game engines framework - i.e. they will be bound by what is possible by the game engine.
There is also the player expectation issue - i.e. a lot of people expect their older hardware which may have been high spec a few years ago to perform at the same level as new hardware today so this can add a very subjective view to performance issues⌠and can be a very touchy subject sometimes with comments like âI can play AAA titles at 144fps with Raytracing on and have no problemsâ etc⌠Some people might expect 4k, Ultra, 120fps performance from 3 year old hardware and there will likely be no way to match this level of expectation.
I have high hopes yetâŚ
They improve it every patch so I think there will be more improvements. At the end of the day itâs tricky because how often do I read about people with high end setups that end up having less fps then I do with my dated rig.
In the future everyone will see improvements but the question is how early in the future.
I have similar experiencesâŚ
One of the things that I hope the devs address is the granularity of the in-game settings by enabling and disabling features to be more appropriate to the setting / hardware.
Its a bit difficult to explain, but for example, there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the effect of different settings like Medium/High etc where (imho/subjectively) the graphical difference is relatively minor, but the the performance and stability difference is huge especially on older yet still capable hardware⌠Its almost as if there are back-end toggles that are enabled that should possibly be reserved for higher settings.
