What I think about Last Epoch after...258 hours

Hello,
After 258 hours I can say what are pros and cons of Last Epoch.
My impressions are based on the fact that I’ve played every ARPG we have.
Literally.

The whole Diablo saga (even Diablo IV beta), the whole Torchlight saga (yes, I tried the third one too…), Titan Quest, Grim Dawn, Lost Ark, Undecember (I know, I know), Gothic, Hero Siege, Minecraft Dungeons, Hammerwatch, Children of Morta, Path of Exile…and many others that I do not list, they are too many.

I had to list them to make it clear that by now I know, I really know what we have had in past, what we have now and what we should have (or not to have) in the future with this kind of video game.

In my personal opinion Last Epoch would need to go back to Closed Beta. No offense.
Too many issues I found and too many new ones I find, especially…after hotfixes and patches.
And too many things are missing, especially from a “technical” point of view.

I don’t know how long it takes for you to make the game a really GOOD alternative to other “successful” games (we will have soon Diablo IV and next year maybe Path of Exile 2) but you have to grow up A LOT your standards…and fastly.

Glitches, latency issues, skill issues, clunky spells, huge lack of class balance, no lore (PoE Style? No thanks), voice acting is ridiculous…and so on.
There is no way that talking about just visual graphics Path of Exile was better 13 years ago.

I said all of this in a “simple” way because they have already been said and I don’t want to repeat them in detail because this is already a wall of text.
In these days loading screen now suddenly last up to 30 seconds (in Monolith), I had frame drops to 2-3 frames (I played the Diablo IV Beta with High settings without any issues) and…and I need to stop.

There are issues that I have read in your official forum that have existed FOR YEARS and have not yet been fixed.

If I were you I would shut everything down and relaunch after at least one year.
But you won’t, you are not like me.

You are smart

This post will stay here forever (or maybe not. Maybe you will delete it. And I don’t care.)
and you will simply slooowly improve the game over months, “milking” players’ money.

You know what?
It’s not your fault, it’s my fault that I bought a Beta from a “Small Indie Company”.
And I can’t even get a refund for the two copies I bought for me and my wife.
My wife played just 10 hours.
“Do ut des”? Not really.

I wish you the best to you and your families.

“Another Joe”

P.s. Sorry, I was almost forgetting the one good thing about Last Epoch: crafting system.

i agree! well said! tho i love the game… wish will be better soon!

I think after playing 258 hours its pretty ok that you aren’t entitled for a refund.
After >400hours in I am still having a blast, I guess everyone is allowed to have his own opinion.
Maybe just take a break and you will come back and have even more fun when the game is more polished.

I think it’s important to remember that Last Epoch is still in early access. While the game is certainly playable and enjoyable in its current state, it’s not yet a finished product.

I don’t think it’s fair to judge it too harshly at this stage.

It may be ‘early access’ but since the current version has been designated ‘0.9’ the devs presumably think it’s 9/10 complete … so it’s valid to ask do the aspects which Talos raises belong in a game 9/10 through the development time-line.

I think it’s at least debateable whether the 0.9 label is misleading as to the game’s progress to 1.0.

Uh…that’s not necessarily how versioning works.

I disagree. While the “0.9” label may suggest that the game is nearing completion, it’s not necessarily a definitive indicator of its overall quality or progress towards a final release.

Progress towards a final product is not always linear.

As @Dertros and @Wegaaa already stated, a version indicator doesn’t necessarily reflect a product’s progress. Also, feature sets within a product can be labelled all with the same version indicator but come in a vastly different state. Since we just got an entirely new segment of the game with v0.9, the multiplayer part, that changed many aspects of how the general game works, you could consider that to be 0.1 of 1.0 if you really want to slap a progress label on it.

I have 800+ hours
Yes the game has some issues, but i think in a few years this game will better than the most games in your list
I got the stash tab bug and was rerolled a view times (since the last patch all my issues are gone). I think the game is a true gem and need only time to shine.

btw: the lore is great, but only not good presented (not comparable e.g. with the cinematics from diablo).

I find it amazing you achieved 258 hours of playing on such an awful game, not only a single positive point, only negative things.
Maybe it’s a good thing people like you just leave.
Oh and talking about milking players money, you played 258 hours for a 39 € game which means it costs you 15 cents an hour of gaming, go try to find something a most efficient entertainment.
Good riddance of people who have such a bad mentality !
