What are Echo Chains good for?

What are genuine use cases for Echo Chains? With “genuine” I mean excluding arcane, exploit-like tactics such as for farming Shades.

I know they are effectively meant for controller / upcoming console players that apparently can’t be bothered to select echos to run (another UI ensh1tifiation for PC players). But why did it have to be “gameified” and isn’t just a menu to select a preset path > 4 through the echo web?

For my style of gameplay I don’t see any point in them. Worse, I’m super annoyed in them appearing in my echo webs as they diminish my “player agency” and force me to run useless echo, like giving Arena keys. I actively avoid them.

  • Rather than spending WT points in disabling useless echo rewards, I spend them in things I do want to do or want to have more of.
  • I only select echo’s that are beneficial to me and run them fully to get all 3 reward multipliers.
  • Therefore I explore an echo more thouroughly and encounter Nemesis, Rift Beast and Omen pretty much each echo, often all three of them naturally.
  • I shatter Timeglass Core to get more Timeglass Fragments to buy Rune of Corruption to gamble on Oculus of Ruin (got more Rune of Corruption than I’d ever need on gear)
  • If I really needed stability I use Temporal Keystones. Should I run out of Temporal Keystones, I could buy them with Timeless Fragments (I’ve never run out of them).
  • If I really wanted to farm Rift Beasts, I could use Nesting Grove. But they spawn every other echo anyway.
  • Nemesis Towers are more effective than Nemesis Echo Chains. Better farm Memory Amber and get hundreds of Nemesis Towers than run that Echo Chain.
  • What’s the point of *actually* farming Omens? Altars? Idols?

It’s likely I’m overseeing something or this just doesn’t fit my playstyle. E.g. are they providing better drops? If so, it sure doesn’t feel like it.
