We need offline LAN connection

I always play with my roommate, but now we dont have Internet connection, and we cant play toghter.
And when we play online, the connection often failed.
We need offline LAN connection. plz

And how would that work with Steam? Does Steam allow offline connections?

It supports true off-line so a LAN connection should be possible.

Agreed, very much needed for the game if they want to support proper offline.

First and foremost they are a live-service game though and their priority should be to make that aspect work or EHG is going under, but right after the game is in a decent stable release state that should be basically priority Nr 2.

Like all the hundreds of other Steam Games which provide LAN connection instead of online.

Actually, the true offline version was built as solo client.

To do LAN they would need to rework the (true) offline client. Perhaps that’ll be possible together with the offline MTX change they’re investigating, but I’m gonna bet it isn’t something they can do Soon™.

Yes, but when they implemented MP I believe that was before they made the “true offline” if I remember correctly. That would mean that the possibility to play in a party would be in the offline version. I just can’t remember for sure if that was the order.

P.S. Why did you use the Trademark after “Soon”?

LAN would be neat.
As an alternative, if you have no internet at your home right now, you could always create a mobile hotspot on your phone and connect via wifi to that … You could then resume multiplayer.

Nah, they had to redo a bunch of the backend of the game for online play, which is why there was a big gap between 0.8.4 & 0.9.0.

A big difference for example is where the save is stored:
Online = server authoritative, saves on their side, MP games go through them
Offline = client authoritative, saves are local (and can be modified)

As for the Soon™:
It’s a meme, especially known among Blizzard games players. Basically mean as much as “working on it, but don’t expect in the next few patches”, because CMs would keep saying “soon” without any commitment or timeline projection on any feature they’ld be working on. Kinda like WASD is coming to LE … Soon™ (no promise it’ll make it into the game, but they’re looking in to it afaik)

Direct connection network code works vastly different from online connection systems. It’s a completely different system, which is why even in games with LAN connectivity we don’t see online connectivity added and vica verse.

Because it’s a old joke that the trademark is not reliable, hence the ‘Soon’ not meaning it to be actually soon but ‘sometime maybe if possible under circumstances…’ you get the gist :stuck_out_tongue:

Happening vastly before Blizzard even, that comes from the ‘olden times’ still and has never changed.
