Just a random in-game lore rant of mine… but did any of you notice a certain absurdity in waypoint placement? Lore wise? They are creations of Eterra (design checks out and only her temple, her doodats and waypoints exist in ancient era), yet they can be find in places like dreadnaught. A ship.
And what is the deal with empire artificial waypoints? They literally have real waypoint next to it, and another one in the ending destination. If there would be some lore explanation, like “it doesn’t activate for undead” then fine, but there is nothing.
It simply grinds my gears.
pssst, thats because theyre a QOL feature thats been retconned into the lore darling. Most games dont even TRY to explain them, idk why youre expecting an in depth lore around them. One could even argue that the reason youre mad is because they bothered to even try explaining it in the first place, because otherwise you’d probably be thinking nothing of it at all.
They exist in convenient places because… thats convenient. For players.
I dont agree with that. Devs clearly put a thought in their world, otherwise they wouldnt put in things like the hidden shrines. The details are there, so why not just add some new text line, for example in the artificial waypoints note, like “… we need to find more sleeping titans. If only the original waypoints worked for us…” Caring about lore of RPG world is not a bad thing.
Sure, let’s remove them and have people crying all over about having to run the entire world on their feet.
Geez, people are really trying to find something to critique in this game.
Stop being butthurt troll. Im not criticizing anything. Im just enjoying the world and want to discuss it. If you dont have anything interesting to add, then stay silent
you missed the point entirely. waypoints exist FOR PLAYERS not for lore. No one said caring about lore is a bad thing: what I DID say is that the feature is a QUALITY OF LIFE feature not a lore feature. This baseline mechanic is usually not explained at all in any game that uses them, because its literally a standard quality of life mechanic most players dont question.
The only reason youre upset by it not fitting the lore is because they attempted to explain it at all in the first place. If their existence was completely removed from the lore it would make exactly zero difference to the actual story.
My point is that things that are being added to the lore specifically to explain why waypoints exist in specific places are the reason youre thinking about this in the first place. They didnt actually need to explain it at all. This is a feature for the players, not for the lore.
They explained that they exist and the context in which they do: they shouldnt need to particularly explain why they exist in convenient places for you, the player, because they literally exist there to BE convenient for you. Thats it, thats the whole reason.
Also, Im not saying they couldnt add more lore to explain things if need be, or that you cant ask for more.
Im just saying that this game probably made a mistake in trying to add them to lore at all in the first place, specifically for this reason.
I wasn’t even being sarcastic or anything.
But this complain really got me by surprise. Never heard about anyone complaining about waypoints not being intrinsically sewn in Lore, specially not in an ARPG.
Sorry for being salty… kinda triggered by so much nonsense I’ve been reading in this forum since launch.
Edit: totally agree with PKRS… if they didn’t bother trying to explain them, this thread wouldn’t even exist, since every game has them and none care to explain.
