Wasd movement plz

swapping between last epoch and poe2 this weekend and frankly I’d rather be playing LE - but it doesn’t have good controller support and all i have is a deck.

LE does let me simulate both m&k and controller at once, but any scheme that switches between them awkwardly adjusts the UI and has some switching lag. this makes playing LE on the deck far more awkward than poe2 - because poe2 has wasd movement.

LE has thumbstick movement only on controller. its m&k controls are just missing the functionality. i cannot simulate controller support with pc controls with LE. adding wasd support like poe2 would eliminate the need for further integration of controller and m&k controls.

you guys should add this asap. the only thing keeping me from playing LE this xmas is lack of wasd movement.

Nothing wrong with requesting it.
There are many (many) threads talking about it, and a few more besides. I think it is safe to say it will come at some point, it is not “if”, it is “when”.
In this generation of consoles and steam decks and controllers and whatnots, it cannot be avoided.

But as an old school PC-only player, I find it a bit sad. To me the control scheme is part of a game’s identity: use the same controls for everything, and everything begins to feel the same.
I am amused when I see threads complaining that PoE2’s bosses feel too soul-like. It seems obvious to me: if you use soul-like controls, you get soul-like feelings, and soul-like bosses.
To me having WASD or a dodge roll in a diablo-like is anathema, it kills the diablo-like identity and makes the game something different (not bad, just different).
In my prehistoric mind, Diablo is supposed to be controlled with a mouse. Dark Souls is meant to be played with a controller, or with WASD and dodge.

But I don’t mind it being an option, as long as I can still ignore it, just like I ignore the dodge roll, and the bosses remain playable without it!
Just please, gaming companies, if you want to use these controls, stop trying to grab nostalgic players by saying your inspiration is Diablo 2. It is not.

Mike already said they would like to add WASD, but that it’s very complicated to add. He said something to the effect of if they got everyone working exclusively on WASD then it would take a few months just for this.
It’s easier when a game starts with WASD in mind, like PoE2 did.

I tried PoE2’s WASD and couldn’t get used to it, but to be honest I don’t feel like I’m missing out. They did it extremely well in that if you’re using mouse and keyboard and you click the right side of the screen and then shoot to the left side, the character will continue moving to the right while shooting.

I would be okay if it was not fully animated

WSAD is tottal game changer. Add it pls as well as you added roll mechanic.

WASD as a ‘simple’ directional input, without the ability to use skills while moving like in PoE2, would already be a nice addition.

If you want WASD just use a controller…

The problem with WASD as it applies to Last Epoch is that click to move works perfectly fine, and LE needs a lot of content updates that are way higher priority than fixing what isn’t broken.

WASD is nice-to-have at best, but by no means is it a necessity. I’ll take new content over WASD any day.

Agree after playing PoE 2, WASD really is the future, specially the way they implemented it.
Being able to keep shooting arrows while moving, hitting dodge rolling, it just feels freaaaaking amazing.

Came from POE2 and amazed with WASD movement. However, I feel like LE has better systems in my opinion. I would like to revisit LE if WASD implemented.

Nice name, was Iceberg taken ?

Someone did a WASD script on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/LastEpoch/comments/1hmr5sm/i_made_a_script_for_wasd_movement_in_last_epoch/

Im curious how it will feel when they drop the new patch in april, cause I have been playing lots of poe2, and wasd just feels natural now. at first I sorta went mouse movement cause its the staple and tried wasd and couldnt really get used to it. but then i tried a ranged build with it, and it was crazy smooth.

I still for a while was like “okay melee click to move, wasd for ranged” now i even play my melee true melee guys as wasd cause it just works…

Do agree more content/balance changes before trying and failing to put in wasd lol

Oh nice, I can give a try to LE now. I love PoE 2, but I hate playing with lags, and only LE offers offline mode. But I would hate even more to play without WASD.

Oh, this is not published yet, we can’t use it?

Its a mod, so offline only

Oh, so it’s there? The only reason I want to try LE instead of PoE2 is option to play offline, without lags, so that is not a problem. But I didn’t find from that rededit post, how to download it?

Oh, found it. Great, will try GitHub - KnightDevRedEmber/Last-Epoch-WASD-script
Hope it is not messing with mouse cursor.

PS. It is kind of works, but not really playable. Mouse moves much slower when you move, glitches all the time, you can’t dash in the direction of movement. I guess I will have to live with PoE 2 connection lags.

Wasd is clearly the superior choice in any modern ARPG. If you want to stick to mouse, go back to Diablo 1.

… What are you talking about exactly?

I never played Diablo 1.

I never said I want to stick to mouse. I said that click to move works perfectly fine, and that new content is a higher priority to me than adding WASD.
I never even said the word mouse.

In summary, I suggested to the OP that since WASD is not implemented yet, they may find controller more enjoyable than mouse because it is most similar to WASD

Why are you even responding to my post in the first place?

Because you know that controller feels much different than WASD + mouse, yet still you scoff at the suggestion of implementing the latter by suggesting to just use a controller?

I did not scoff, and I do not know that controller feels much different than WASD.

Please do not make so many assumptions, or fabricate things, there’s no need to use your imagination here, or make stuff up.

I was just trying to be helpful to the OP by suggesting that if they want WASD, which we do not have yet, that controller may be helpful to them in the meantime. And I suggested that WASD should be a lower priority than new content since click to move works perfectly fine, and controller is a fine substitute for WASD.

I don’t see any major difference between WASD and using a controller.
