Nah, they are fun, great games that work within their frame of reference. But this frame is not ARPG.
Even in the PoE2 gameplay videos that were published, melee characters get hit. The dodge roll is a nice addition, allowing you to get out of the mess into a more favourable position. But once you stop in that position to attack, you’ll be hit. Maybe not as often, but something will get you.
As for LE, it’s possible to go tanky. Most people don’t go tanky - they just think they do. They have all this armor and resists, and then walk around with 1050 health and no ward as a forge guard and complain about one-shots in 100 corruption monos.
How about 3k health? 100% crit avoidance/DR? Less damage taken from passives, if available?
Yes, the difficulty is scaling infinitely. It’s mathematically guaranteed that every build will reach a point where the smallest hit will one-shot you.
It’s bad when people are making beastmaster build guides, using necro ward items as primary defense, and that’s how the game should be played? I don’t fault guide makers, they are making it happen with what they got, and this is it atm.
all the top 100 beastmasters use ward builds ALL of them, I honestly don’t know if it’s ignorance or hypocrisy. Denying the problem does not solve it. And I say even more with ward the performance of the top 1 beastmaster in 20% of t1 Lock progress
There are no necro items in that build and it’s just an LL build, like many others. They’ve been around before 1.0 and aren’t broken by themselves, since you still need to set up other defensive layers.
There will always be a meta. I’m not really worried about that. I’ve played enough video games, I know that there will always be something better. But right now there’s nothing that competes with the exploitive interactions that ward has with a few of the skills. Those interactions make your choices and gear less valuable so long as you are doing them. I won’t get my fomo from someone playing a normal meta character with fewer or no exploits, and took the time to gear their brains out.
The point was how clueless a lot of the most vocal people are. Someone else above me doesn’t even know how crit affixes work. Same old crap, a bandwagon of complaints from a loud minority who don’t even know what they are talking about.

The issue is that they know there are some bugged ward builds, so to them everything that has ward is abusing stuff, when clearly only a few of the new things have problems.

It’s a self stacking mechanic that every class seeks after except maybe rogue (lol, max dodge amirte?)
The entry into ward is cheap, and the return on it is insane. You don’t even need a complex build. You can literally ignore every other defense basically because as long as you’re coming in at a 15k regenerating ward, you just soak hits and your shield instantly regenerates.
This was an extremely poor implementation of the mechanic. Somehow they made it worse than PoE.
Nerf this garbage, you’re not supposed to just cruise to 2k corruption on one rudimentary mechanic that has literally no draw backs (inb4 endurance cant be used with ward. Yeah, and it can’t really be used with life currently at the moment either, it’s a bad stat).
