just notice a curious thing regarding Master Quality select box, yesterday i had several frezeees playing the game, then i realized that i was using all the VRAM of my NVIDIA 2070 super (8 GB) i had Master Quality in Ultra, and i was using a lot of VRAM too many if you ask me for a game of this characteristics. Then today i found that if i set Master Quality to low, and set all the other sliders/options to ULTRA, then i use a lot less VRAM , about 4500 … but if i set Master Quality at medium or higher , then uses about 7500… I thought the Master Quality was only a preset for the sliders/options below , but seems like is doing something more… The curious thing is if you set it to low but crank all the other options to ultra you keep using less vram, about 4500 and i can tell the graphics are as in Master Quality Ultra, so someone has noticed/can explain? My theory is that something is wrong with the Master Quality selector and its allocating vram that is not needed… BTW im using rivatuner to check the vram compsumtion…
Hey… thanks for doing this and observing the issue…
Without monitoring this issue from a VRAM perspective like you have, I can confirm that I have also noticed something is odd about the Master Quality global setting from a performance perspective…
I have not expressly tested the issue to find out if I can deduce exactly what is happening in an objective way, but it seems that if you change/set a default master option and then start changing the individual items, its almost as if the one overrides the other in a very strange way.
The le_graphics ini file does update to match the selections but its almost as if there is some strange thing happening when you change the master setting…
On a side note specific to the Ultra mode in general - not sure which particular subsetting is the primary cause but there is something about using Ultra settings which, when enabled seem to cause the game to be very unstable when compared to High/very high modes… even on systems that one would expect to be able to run on the highests settings - e.g. 3000 series gpus and the latest ryzen cpus etc… - even in beta/unoptimised state…
Thanks to you for acknowledge the issue. I can confirm now (after 1 day of testing this new config) i run the game flawless, (all in ultra but the master quality selector in low) and i get about 90 fps average consuming about 4700 mb VRAM, with my NVIDIA 2070 super. I’m not having any crash since i discovered this method, also no black screens after teletransport which also attribute to the VRAM compsumption. Regarding your final paragragh, I didnt notice myself any setting (apart from master quality) that causes my system to be unstable.
