Volcanic orb and shrapnel

  • Does the shrapnel generated by Volcanic orb will deal damage to myself, and therefore count as a damage I took, tiggering effect “when you are hit” ? I intend to use this to trigger fire aura via dark shroud cinders : “+(17% to 25%) Chance to cast Fire Aura when Hit (1 second cooldown)”.

  • Do you have any idea of sources to inflict self damage through an attack (I will use surge from the spellblade for this purpose) ?

No. There are some ways to apply DoTs to yourself but I’m noy sure off the top of my head for that particular effect.

A lot of DoTs aren’t ‘hits’ though, right?

No DoTs are hits…

Huh, okay, well, i’m reading Tunk Labs wrong then. Can find anything that says ailments are hits.

Found this in LE Tools.

Ailments can either be applied by a hit, or by area effects that attempt to apply ailments at a fixed interval.

Just trying to understand this.

So if the OP were to use something like:

The “(46% to 100%) Chance to Ignite yourself when you use a Fire or Necrotic Skill” would or wouldn’t be a HIT? Based on the LE Tools thing it doesn’t sound like it but I may be misinterpreting.

Depends how it was coded, it could be either a zero damage hit that applies an ignite or skipping that part and just applying the self-ignite.
