Volatile Reversal - Issue with Haste/Frenzy nodes not working if you don't 'reverse'

I am enjoying the new version of VR, as I hated having to use it previously as a ‘reset my mana but I get buffs’ skill. Having it now as a sort of movement skill is great. However, I am slightly confused on why the nodes in the upper left of the skill only seem to work if you don’t change how it ‘teleports’ you.

If you take either Future Focus or Immutable Past, it doesn’t seem like Catching Up / Warped Time work at all. Which honestly sucks. They are very small buffs, 1s per points spent. So I don’t understand why they are locked to only ‘reversing’, so you can’t take any other means of changing the combo. Like for me, I didn’t want to be able to jump backwards after I moved. I wanted / needed a movement skill for my Paladin that 1) didn’t rely on a target, 2) didn’t end premature due to poor aiming into a wall.

Its a very decent skill now, but the fact that its little buffs seem to only work if you don’t change how the combo works hurts. Its cool now you can make it fire damage or send void beams or bring in orbs.
