Very frustrating

I like last epoch and it’s fun and in most respects it’s superior to Diablo 4,
But there is one thing that bothers me a lot,
I’m a casual gamer and play a maximum of 20 hours per week.
The item grind takes too long to progress, which is frustrating and makes the game boring when you’re in the early end game.
As an example.
I play a warlock and for my build I need a dagger and a helmet, and I also farm the right monoliths that I found at last epoch tools.
I then farmed the right echoes countless times to get my dagger and my helmet, but the pool of helmets and daggers is so large that the time you have to invest to get your helmet and dagger means countless hours of grinding, and then You still have to be lucky to get a good roll and you have to be even more lucky to get legendary potential on it, and then you need even more luck to get a purple item with a T6 or T7 stat with the right affix and then you have to be even more lucky that the t6 t7 affix also comes onto the legendary item when merging.
That means you need luck and luck and luck and more luck, the game is a pure game of chance, not a game that rewards you for the time you have spent. Even if you are unlucky you are punished because your luck wasn’t big enough.
I’ve farmed for 80 hours now and got nothing and now my interest is at an end, so I won’t play the game for a while, I’m very dissatisfied with the item grind and the progression, that’s much, much worse than that Boring Duriel grind after uber uniques in Diablo 4, both take too long and it’s no fun doing the same thing 500 times.
I would like to be able to farm the items you need for your build in a much more targeted manner.
A game that wastes my time and you haven’t achieved anything at the end of the day isn’t fun in the long term.

I’ll start saying that LE as an ARPG has grind written all over it. It is the essence of the genre.

I understand what you are saying about having a limit on how many hours you get to play every week so i think the best bet for you to enjoy the game and progress, would be to join the Merchant’s Guild.

Joining the MG, you can buy the items you want , making your time spent grinding feel well rewarded. I think MG should be the default choice for players with limited available play time.

The counterpoint to your argument is that making everything easy and targetable leaves players who do have more time to play left with nothing to do.

Your problem is that you are watching build guide videos made by people who make a living out of playing the game and have everything possible and you have gotten into your head that the only way to play the game is to play it as uber meta build by getting item X, Y, Z, A & D rolled with perfect LP slams and assigning every point perfectly just like in the build guide.

But, not only is that very difficult for a casual player. I got news for you…It is not necessary and it is not fun. Don’t let your enjoyment of a game be tied to how well you compete with sweaty basement nerds. It’s a lose lose mindset.

All classes can go out there wtih non-meta builds that at least make some sense and are supported by decent rare items with a little crafting effort and clear the campaign and begin making progress in monoliths.

There may be certain bosses that force you to switch gear or rethink your build and strategy. But, that is what is actually fun.

You say that it is not fun doing the same thing 500 times. Well, what exactly are you going to start doing that IS fun after you get every item you need? I got bad news for you. Nothing different.

I’m guessing this is Legacy? Farming 80 hours at a rate of 20 hours a week puts us back to pre-release, so it can’t be a Cycle character. That also means you started farming before factions.

Since you were already high level at release, you should have gone with Merchant’s Guild. Favour would have come quickly with high level content, and you could have just bought what you wanted from other players.

If your actions don’t align with your objectives, that’s not the game’s fault.
