Unique and set drops

Hello! First things first. I REALLY love this game so far, been playing for 40 hours+ now. Made a couple characters and I really love what the devs did with this game. One thing I do want to share my thoughts on with drops for unique and set items for now is that I feel like it takes too long to get what you need to make a specific build.

I’ve been spamming the Monolith of Fates with my Sentinel trying to find the uniques I need to further push my build to the max and play around my build and try things to see if they work or not.

For what I’ve seen unique and set items seem to drop completely random from every monster out in the world. Not sure how it’s calculated but I feel like bosses or elites don’t have more chances to drop more uniques or sets than normal monsters. While doing Monoliths, after reaching the boss and killing it I would expect it to drop these items rather than blues and yellows all the time. It would be fun to feel excited after you kill a boss every time to be expecting something big instead of the same items over and over. I wasn’t really able to get past 10 consecutive monoliths in a row because after a while I get a map that completely destroys me.

I know crafting is a good way to make the stats you want but while trying to do something specific that plays around unique and set items unless your luck is super good it’s taking me super long to get the ones I want.

I’m not saying i’m not getting ANY drops at all. I have. But I’ve been getting all sorts of unique items for other classes more than the class i’m playing now. It’s a good thing and a bad thing at the same time because if I decide to make another character then i’ll have some uniques I need. But for what i’m trying to do it feels like it’s taking me way to much time to get the items that would fit my class instead of getting all items of every other class in the game.

Sorry for the long post. I really love this game and what they did. ARPGs are meant to grind for gear, I don’t want this post to feel like i’m shitting on it. It’s just my feedback on what i’ve been seeing and feel like it could be better in some ways

Thanks for reading and I’m really excited to see what this game will bring in the future

Can of agree overall, played around 100 hours, haven’t be able to finish one set yet.

got one piece of a void night set than I had no idea existed, so a pretty good surprise, (I was playing a void night actually don’t know if it helps a little) but the idea of finishing the set seem to be a far dream as I already switch on a new character

But to be completely fair, I haven’t played that much at end game, only got like 3 character at level 70+ and I notice while pushing monolith (10-15 success) with my Lich I had a descent drop ,so might need to push further to get what I need and discover more unique.

Yeah I do agree we might need to push further into the monoliths to get more gear. Although it seems hard to be able to get to 20+ without having the gear we want to be able to push it harder

This might get better with additional endgame modes. Right now I have to agree some items are super rare and take a lot of time and some luck to find.

I got a lot of uniques at the vendor, but this is not possible anymore with the last patch. But also gambling can result in getting a unique.

I can feel the increase of magic find with higher monoliths, but it’s very punishing when you die and have to make a new start.

But when I think of it I don’t feel it’s unfair.

If you really wanna start chasing items and force luck it would be a good idea to roll a character that is very strong at monolith. This is a bit like D2 where you’d roll a sorc for bossruns, except you don’t need to switch to mf gear before you do the killing blow.

Yeah, I haven’t thought about that at all. I think that would be the only way to get some items right now actually. Cuz if we can’t make it past 10 monoliths I feel like it’s not rewarding enough or you have to grind way more and hope to get lucky.

Hello !

I think the game remains more crafting related than drop related (and they want players to use the crafting for its potential). When you have a lengendary, you build around it (not the inverse). It’s the purpose of their system to build around your character and not your stuff (imho).

So it’s potential for crafting (as glyphs, shards, base items) & arena key (even if i hate this mode) that you farm in MoF.
And, as often, if you increase the drop rate of these items (even in rare or boss) : is it still legendary when you drop it (D3 effect) ? What’s the point to push/farm MoF if everyone has quite “easily” the legendary drops (chara go to lvl 100, only the MF is higher) ? What’s the point to make a whole map if you can rush the boss of the area for loots you want to have (more loots on the reward chest if more enemies killed ?) ?

So, imho, we drop at a normal rate but it’s a good thing that you can’t obtain your stuff in the minute (and not on easy targetable ennemies).

To end, as @XLVI_carpo mentioned it, we’ll have other endgame modes. Moreover, i think it’s the first step of MoF (did the maps on PoE start with all the mods they have now ? ).

Have fun dear Epochers

Without a doubt things will get better in the future for sure since they will add more things to do for end game content, which i’m super excited about! I think the point I was trying to say was that now it feels like bosses are just another enemy that’s harder to kill and doesn’t give you “better” loot. This will probably change when they’ll implement legendaries as well. We shall see!

I can’t wait to see what the devs will bring to this game related to the end game and see what path they will take for the game

Yes ! I understand the idea but i’m afraid that works against their other conceptions of the farming ;). But i agree rare mobs are not more generous (Scrooge affix ^^).
Moreover, something obvious i didn’t mention : when multiplayer will be released, you’ll have the trading system if you really want an item (you’re full of gold with time).

Yes, multiplayer will definitely help with this situation! That’s another thing that I can’t wait for! It’s gonna boost the gaming experience so much.

Just in case you are not aware: The reward you get at the end of an MoF run (the chest at A Moment In Time) is higher the more creeps you have killed in your run. So rushing through the end results in getting less items. This was implemented with patch 0.7.6 I think. Also I encountered chests during a MoF run at the edge of the map that were quiet rewarding.

And as you mentioned, it’s not the bosses that drop the big loot. This might change for other game modes. Right now clearing MoF is definitely rewarding imho.

On top of that there are some types of items that only drop at higher levels. So you have to be at a certain level to have the chance to get them. This may also be a reason why some items are missing in your collection.

I can confirm, I just did a push for 2 hours with a very effective character (Lich aura of decay) I’m level 78 and went till 32 without dying and I can say I got heaps of new unique, and some very cool one, a lot with a level requirement of 50-60+

So, like mentioned, its very effective to create a very strong character with high move speed to farm unique in Monolith

Thank you! This info is really important imo for someone who is just started and doesn’t really know what to do with end game content

That’s awesome! I just created a Lich as well to see how far i can push it
