We already gave A LOT of feedback when this happened in April (I think 23rd, yes?), but here we go again.
Having unscheduled and unannounced server shutdowns is unfriendly and quite frankly unprofessional. I checked here on the Official Forums, the Last Epoch X and FB accounts, but nothing announced about this. Announcements about things that remove the players ability to play the game should be top priority.
Now I don’t know if this is just an EU West thing this time around, but even if its an isolated restart or shutdown or whatever… some kind of information would be really nice in such situations.
I don’t care who does it. If its a community manager or a server maintenance engineer. SOMEONE should inform the players about server shutdowns! Not just a short 2 second banner in game stating that in 20 minutes you can’t play the game.
They posted it on discord, but apparently forgot (yet again) to post it here:
"Hello Travelers,
A Patch is going out today at 17:00, this will involve a shutdown of old servers and players will be kicked from the game. Please restart Steam and download the update when this happens."
Was it just a 5 minute countdown in game too? Because that is not enough.
Edited: Maybe thats just when i logged in but I almost think a popup should stop you from starting a new echo without accepting there is less than 5 minutes. At least some kind of scrolling banner.
I got the first message 30 minutes before the restart. Weird.
I don’t think it’s unprofessional either. It’s just a restart. You’ll be able to continue playing soon.
The estimated length of the patch deployment doesn’t really matter. Things can go wrong (as we’ve seen) and a simple restart can grow to a longer downtime.
It’s not really that much trouble to post on the forums prior to the shutdown/restart/patch. And especially in this case where they had the text ready! Literally just copy/paste.
So yeah. Professionals should know how to copy/paste.
But… all this complaining being said. They added Regex in Stash search so I forgive everything.
Im a newer player and tried doing uberoth for the first time alone, first i got him to 45% and got kicked off the game. I honestly didnt know there is a server restart :< would really appreciate a bigger server restart / shutdown notification on screen.
Anyone can release a game these days. But that doesn’t make anyone a professional.
In my opinion, they’re still developing into professionals, but that takes time.
There are still so many bugs. Two examples: The character still walks around while you click around in the shop window.
The translation uses the word “Tasten” (= keys on the keyboard) instead of “Schlüssel” (= keys for locks) for the new Inventory stash. That’s not professional either, but that’s the way it is at the moment.
But I’m still glad you found something in the patch that you’re happy with.
In fact, the real problem is much more serious. Neither sending SMS, nor knocking on the door of a courier with a warning to each player personally will ever reduce the number of such topics.
Theoretically, when it comes to professionalism, as soon as they realized how bad the service was, they should have immediately looked for a better alternative. it’s still their responsibility, and that’s why I gave it as an example. I mean, personally, it doesn’t bother me that much. I actually find some of the translation errors quite funny. For example, I don’t get kicked off the server if I’ve been afk for too long. I just get kicked, in like “to kick sb”. “Du wirst in 4 getreten Min”. Let me try that in English “You get in 4 kicked min”. That was 1.0 and I’m not sure if they changed it yet, but it was funny to read every time.
Since you’re talking in the past, does that mean they won’t use the service in the future?
Which is a problem with EHG since they pay em and tasked them with the job
Ehg is responsible to get stuff done properly first, then the company providing the translation to make a good job.
Plainly spoken with the shoddy work they do there should be a recompensation for EHG, because it’s laughable. I can put words into google translate too and put an intern behind it to cobble it together. Would probably be the same quality in quite a few languages.
@Kulze@DanEsms I agree completely, if the translations are as bad as everyone says they are then there should be some recompense to EHG & they should find a better translation service.
Yes, they are even worse.
‘Tasten’ is just one example.
Basically imagine if your keys are suddenly called ‘buttons’. Kinda confuses people.
And that’s top-end stuff only, now imagine trying to decipher what the heck skills do, or your attributes, or inconsistent damage types.
I personally would probably need around a month of work for a english → german translation of the whole game, with a proof-reader… and it would have a few errors in it… but not that quantity.
And mind you, I’m not a translator, I’m simply a native speaker who can write a lot
You know some gaming companies provide the community with the games texts for the explicit purpose of communal translating. Could be a thing depending on how the texts are available etc.
