Uber Aberroth Design - Controller

Hi, first of all i do really love this game, i think this season is super fun, lots of good improvements on the game, and the craft system(besides runes of havoc being inexistent, but that is a conversation for another day).

I’ve been trying to beat uber aberroth with my paladin crit javelin, i just want to give some pointers why do i think this boss has a terrible design in many ways.

  • Most of attacks one shot you, doesn’t matter how much crit avoidance you have, defenses capped, 4k hp, lots of armor, they still one shot you, unless you are cheesing with judgment, well not everyone wants to play a cheese build, definetely not me.

  • So much stuff happening on the screen, and you need to move around the arena to find a place to step, great now i can’t see the boss and can’t see what he is doing, guess what? he charges and 1 shot me. FUN!

  • First phase down, lets kill the first harbinger, guess what? can’t see the boss and what he is doing, im deleting here btw, but then he cast the fireballs and im getting rooted and one shotted. I could just wait until he casts the fireball, and she comes closer to the boss, but now guess what? o cant target the harbinger with the controller, it targets the aberroth instead, he doesn’t take damage, no leech… dead.

  • Rooted, honestly i don’t know who thought root on top of all that would be a good idea, but ok. now explain to me how im rooted, i use evade which is literally a roll dodge, and by the end of my roll dodge im still rooted?

In summary, it should have less stuff on the screen, i want to fight the boss, not random stuff on the floor, most of the time i die to stuff that i can’t even see, most of the time i can’t see the boss, Arena should be smaller, so the boss is always on my screen, so i can see what he is doing, remove root, there is already a bunch of bs, if i can’t move well ggs. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NERF STUNS, its so annoying being stunned all the time. and i say this generally, stuns are so broken, both ways. regular mobs stunning with a basic attack shouldn’t be a thing, me perma stunning julra t4 shouldn’t be a thing either.

Completely agree with the OP

Well, it’s Uber we’re talking about so don’t expect this fight to be mechanically easy. The items Uber drops are quite strong to be held by a boss that’s not even challenging. After a few tries and some build optimization Aberroth takes 1-1.5 minute max to go down and that’s just because he’s changing eras during the fight so the damage he gets is abysmally lower compared to the rest of the fight.
So if Aberroth can be easily farmed the next boss is currently the Pinnacle one which is his Uber difficulty. Shattered Worlds and Immortal Vise are not build-enabling items so nobody’s forcing you to challenge Uber. You choose to do it and you know what challenges await. If your build can’t kill him go for the cheesy one which is judgement pally and just try to kill him for his items to drop and then change to javelin like you currently are. Personally I’m struggling due to low HP and maybe bad items but what i can do to keep him on my screen is just stay closer. You dint have to play max range plus you need to keep your distance if you want him to perform certain skills to keep them on track. If you’re constantly on the edge of the Arena then you know you can’t see him at all times.
Try to work on your movements is my suggestion and try to learn his skill patterns. Some of them are easy to track.

haha, i’m talking about the design. trust me i played hard games all my life, elden ring, bloodborne and etc. i got him to 20% hp after the shield, so im close to beat him.
But this doesn’t take the fact that are a lot of bad design choices here. being rooted after an evade doesn’t make sense, you literally takes your two feet from the ground to roll dodge, so it should break the root. There is a lot of visual clutter on the screen, you can’t see abilities properly, sometimes he stands on an AOE he put on the floor, and you can’t see it, and it one shots you, everything gives you frailty on this fight if you don’t have cleanse its a pretty unfair fight. Plus most of the times boss isn’t even on your screen, you can’t aim javelin properly with a controller. list goes on. I was doing a vengeance build and i was pretty happy with it, but i had to change to javelin, because its nearly impossible to kill him with vengance because of the frailty, with javelin at least i get cleanse from smite, but if you have frailty you don’t leech and die. now why everything gives you frailty? such a bad design. making a fight relying on a resource that isn’t accessible. you can see most of builds who killed it, either had cleanse, or ward, or they are broken, like beastmaster, falconer and eraser striker, i don’t want to play those builds.

Well that is how it is supposed to be, you should learn the fight and do it withotu getting hit as much as possible.
But apparently your defenses are not “capped”, because even without a chesse build you can reach a point where stuff does not one-shot you, to give you more room for errors.

But that is exactly what makes the boss fun. All of his abilities are impacted by where he stands relative to the player. So you are in a lot fo control where stuff will go.

No offense, but this really sounds like you are not playing the fight optimally yet, so you probably need to learn more.

There are some mechanics that will force you to run away and what makes you a good and skilled player is how you react to them.

Aberroth charges at you when you are far away, he places most abilities into your direction or directly on top of you. So you are in control where stuff goes.

If the entire arena is filling with stuff, you messed up, because you can make stuff stack in certain parts of the arena and have room in the other parts of the arena.

I absolutely loved when doing him the firs tfew times and get absolutely annihilated. It really made me learn the fight even more and try to avoid any mistakes.
Havign fought him a few dozen times in SC already and really improving my skills mechanically is very rewarding.

I still have not defeated him and I don’t think I ever will with the kind of builds I am playing, but I really like the fight.

Might as well call him CrapaDoT

This Root mechanic is highly inconsistent with movement skills like Flame rush, Healing hands(with invulnerability), Evade do get Rooted at the end of the skill. Whereas Shift, Teleport, Transplant do not.

I think this is EHG’s vision though. It feels like they just tested Uberroth with Erasing strike and Judgement, Thought ‘yes seems fine for player damage and defense’, then shipped it. No testing or balancing around other skills whatsoever. They also didn’t fix any of the bugs or problems with regular Aberroth when upgrading him to Uber.

The ball in the middle of the arena(which spawns the laser beams) is targetable despite being invincible. Automatic and Manually cast skills can target it instead wasting damage.
During Invulnerability phase Aberroth is still targetable so that automated skills and minions can waste time hitting him instead of the Harbinger.
DoT effects overlap making more dangerous DoTs like the Ground of destruction invisible.
Frost wall can spawn outside the arena if you cast it near the edges.
Forge weapons spawn behind Aberroth for some reason, this means they instantly spawn in the DoT when he is preparing his Timeshattering Slam.

Actually, given what the devs have said about this fight, it would be more likely that they didn’t test those properly, rather than the other way around. VK, Falconer and Pally seem to kill Aby way more than they intended. Especially VK.

You can say whatever you want, but i just beat him with my paladin javelin, so you can take all what you are saying that i wasn’t fighting him optimally back. having beat him doesn’t change my opinion about this boss, all i said still stands

No offense, but you are not even trying to play mechanics most of the times.

I feel like this is a issue when people expect bosses to just die by spamming with enough dps. You are not even trying to dodge or avoid the lasers and/or void spheres and stand in them to try and burst dps him down.
Your cleanse uptime is not high enough that this is even worth it. You have a very high uptime on Aberroth Frailty, which significantly reduces your damage.
All mechancis are all over the place because you do not even try to position yourself, you just sometimes dodge out of stuff and then stand still and continue dpsing.
With a little bit better positioning and mechanicaly play you woudl kill him even faster and on top of that the screen would be much less filled with Void Puddles and Lasers.

I never played builds that have this high dps, but give me a build wioth this high dps and I will first try him. This seems crazy to me, that people expect to just braindead facetank most of the stuff and when they don’t succeed they blame the boss fight’s mechanics.

HAHAHAHAHAHA you will first try it if i give you my build right, you have no idea how much effort i put to craft this build for this fight, trying to dodge everything will 1st decrease my dps a lot, 2nd i will end up dying by RNG stuff, i have crazy leech on this build thats why i stand on stuff, i stay close to the boss because smite cleanses me, i dodge everything that one shots me, literally everything besides the puddles that touches me im dead, i use need to use rebuke on perfect timing for some things like shuriken hits that would one shot me. im not facetanking at all, its just that i NEED to stay close to him, but i still dodge everything. Its so funny that you are not even trying to kill the boss, and you are here talking about people who have beat it, and how im wrong in thinking this fight is BS, while you having even tried lol. Sit for this boss for 1 week and try to learn all the mechanics and kill him. them you can come back here and say that this fight is fair. Im first person that i know who beat him with javelin btw.

No it will not, a lot of the times when you get 5-10 stack of Aberroth’s Frailty you just would need to do one dodge roll and instantly dps again, but yet you stand on it to do “dps”. Aberroth Frailty gives you 5% less damage per stack.
You are absolutely wasting dps, because you don’t cleanse regularly enough. and have 5-10 stacks on dozens of occasions while only needing to move for a brief second or one dodge roll.

Also you are definitely facetanking stuff on occasions, which is totally fine, if you build you character to handle it.

You are literally standing still when a Void Sphere approaches you, which is fine I guess when you don’t care about them that much, but yet you critique the visual clarity of the boss fight and how much is happening. Why do you not dodge stuff then that causes visual clutter on the screen?

At some occasions in the last phase you literally run INTO void puddles just to be close to the boss, which makes no sense when there is nothing applying debuffs to you anyway at that moment.

I salute you for building a powerful build that can do this boss in this way.
But yet you are far far from playing the boss fight optimally.
By building a very powerful build you can off-set the need to play optimally, which is fine and increases room for errors.

But then complaining about mechanics and visual clarity, when you either don’t udnerstand the mechanics or simply don’t care and ignore most of them, that makes no sense to me.

Also I did fight and try him a lot of times, just because I haven’t beat him, doesn’t mean I have no clue about what I am talking about. I simply don’t want to comprimise my build fantasy and themes just to do this boss, since I am doing non meta builds.

Even if you have never done Uber Aberroth just by watching your video you can see that you are not playing optimally, purely mechanically speaking.

Javelin has a passive that increases your physical penetration if you are standing still, the reason i have high dps is because i stand still, if i move around too much i lose 150% physical penetration, which decreases my dps from 1.3M to 700mil.

This just shows how you don’t understand this fight(of course you not even trying your self), the reason i need to stay close to him there, its because he does this beam attack that hits in a cone wide area, if you are far from him when he does that is really hard to dodge, so i go closer to him, so when he charges that i can simply go behind him.

And like i said, the reason i need to stay close to him is for me to get cleanse by my smite hits, it has a chance to cleanse, and that with my holy aura cleanse and my high leech is enough for me to tank DOTs, but i still get one shotted by all his skills. Believe me i started your way, trying to dodge everything, but then you get rooted, you get stunned, then you die over and over again, like i said give it 2 days of trying this boss and you will understand what im talking about, bear in mind i also playing on a controller, which is much harder to aim, another reason why i choose to stay close to him… you watch these streamers with the most broken eraser striker builds, and yeah if you are using a broken build fight is a lot easier, but still much easier to watch and judge when you are not even trying to beat the boss yourself, so go ahead and give it some try, if you want i can give you my full build so you can first try it.

I think that was a pretty good kill. Pretty good use of rebuke and cleanse through the fight.

Spamming potion cleanse is a scam, potions drop kinda weirdly in the fight sometimes they drop in the Destruction Ground DoT even if Aberroth is not near it.

Not every build is the same and you are correct in that Javelin requires standing still more than say Shatter Strike/ Rive which can afford to stutter step a little. ARPGs are all about build diversity and a boss fight should be feasible for various build types or else it is just a bad fit for an ARPG.

This got him to 2% https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bp_Mwn4NweM
And this I think uploaded a few hrs before yours https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGSX0wImGv4
But I think yours is the fastest kill of all of them, pretty impressive!

Congratulations, man. You are one of the select few who have managed to beat Uber Aberroth.
P.S. I agree that the battle could use some de-cluttering. Way too much stuff going on. This coming from someone who absolutely loves this game.

Yes i saw that 2% it was painful to watch, that guy switched to erasing strike build after,
Volca video was uploaded i think 4-5 hours after mine, and his kill was on offline… But still my build baseline came from volca anyway, so props for him.

Thanks for the shout outs!

Absolutely right. And the best items in the game are locked behind it too so its either cheese your way to victory using something obviously overtuned or suffer with the fact that you’ll never get those items. (Assuming you’re playing COF).
