I love the game and the idea of free loot through Twitch drops, but I don’t like the idea of missing a drop campaign and never being able to get that cosmetic ever again. It would be fantastic to reduce FOMO (fear of missing out) for collectors like me to have the Twitch drops be available on the cosmetics shops after the Twitch campaign ends/expires. This is also beneficial for LE because they’d be set behind a purchase, netting more revenue.
I am not a marketing expert, but I don’t know if thas is true. Because of the exclusivity twitch drop campaigns do cause them to give the game good attention and view counts, which helps marketing in the long run, especailly to bring in new people.
When drops are not exclusive anymore the attention and viewership surrounding the game would be less and in totality this would possibly reduce the revenue for EHG in the long run.
I think these kind of marketing campaigns are hard to quantify how much they really do, but they are doign something, otherwise companies wouldn’t do it^^
I think it’ll still bring in a large croud not necessarily for the exclusivity, but for the “wow I get free stuff!”, which always seems to win Missing out doesn’t feel nice, so being able to purchase them at a later date is the way to go. I think a win-win here would be to keep the items as Twitch drops to bring in new people like you mentioned, then wait a full year and add them to the cosmetic shop with a price. We’d all win here!
This would hold more weight if Twitch had the same cultural significance it did 10 years ago. These days, a lot more people only watch twitch for the marketing goodies, and even if they came to the store just about all of those same people would still watch the marketing campaign simply because the goodies were free.
Considering that the majority of people don’t buy MTX, removing exclusivity from twitch drops will end up in a reduction in players being brought in, while only slightly increasing MTX sales.
