Twisted Hearth of Uhkeiros Question

I don’t really get it why this item is BiS to some builds. I am currently running this Plasma Orb Build from Maxroll: Plasma Orb Runemaster - Last Epoch Maxroll.gg

The thing is, I play solely harcore. I am currently lvl 83 and feeling pretty strong. I still havent used this item, although I bought it in the bazaar, because when I use it, my health drops to 200-300… in hardcore it feels a bit unsafe, to say the least. Mainly because I’ve noticed that some types of damage go through ward and affect your health directly, like poison, doesn’t it? Or I am mistaken?

I saw some people running this build with this Uhkreiros and they somehow recover HP, I dotn know how they do it, because I got the exact same items and my HP doesnt go up… stay dangerously low. Am I doing something wrong or this is just not an item for hardcore players?

I think you’re confusing it with Exsanguinous, Last Steps of the Living or the experimental health missing to ward affix. Those remove your health and convert it to ward.

But the heart doesn’t do that. It does the reverse. It gives you ward based on your current total health. So if you have 3k health, and you cast a necrotic spell, you’ll get 240 ward and stay at 3k health.

I’m not an expert on this particular item so others may add way better advice then I’m about to but here goes.

Essentially, unless you’re running a low-life build where you WANT it to drain everything, then it’s a balancing act.

For health replenishment you’re going to need either some form of leech or some form of ‘gain x health on SOMETHING’ type nodes in passives or uniques or skills.

Because if you use it right, you can keep your health high and you’ll be gaining an extra ‘ward’ buffer as the conversion is happening simultaneously.’

And a lot of people like it for the +1 ele/nec skill boost as well as the HUGE Health% addition.

Only if he’s got some sustain. It lowers your health just like the last steps and exang it’s just not a CONSTANT like those.

It CONVERTS the health to Ward. So You get, let’s just say 100 Ward in exchange for 100 Health.
If you have 1000 health total, than firing one skill will now leave you at 900 health 100 Ward. BUT, if you’ve got some kind of heal or health on hit or something to that effect, you can replenish that health really quickly keeping the ward (depending on how good your ward decay is.)

This is actually a good reason to take those three new blessing nodes that have ward decay threshold on them. Because you can actually have a permanent ward buff when you aren’t firing off skills.

Yes, I expressed myself incorrectly. I actually meant what you explained. As in, not a constant health drain.

You cannot get killed through Ward. Poison goes into Ward too

Some environmental effects (necrotic aparatus in one of the arenas) deal % of current HP as damage, which means, if you have 100 hp, they deal very tiny amounts of damage and you cannot actually die from them. So don’t worry, Ward is safe.

Normally when you use Uhkeiros, you also use some way of replenishing your HP.

  • HP regen
  • Damage Leech
  • skills that heal

As Runemaster, you’ll most likely be doing the Leeching.
The build you linked from Maxroll has Lightning Damage Leech from the Sorcerer passive tree (Rift Bolt), but otherwise they use NONE of this, which is probably why you’re dropping to 300 HP

Their showcase video does in fact use leeching. You can see how his health regen is slow but becomes faster when he hits enemies.

As for solutions, you can equip Avarice / Burning Avarice or swap the Crit Multi blessing to Grand Hunger of the Void.

PS: I forgot the passive from Sorcerer, edited.

There’s only 2 & that’s the degen pools in the Dragon Emperor fight & the necrotic degens in one of the arenas. Nothing else does.
