There are a few issues, I think, with the fluidity of the combat system in this game and I’d like to address them.
Hit boxes are too small on mobs. This makes it difficult to target mobs without resorting to the “stand still” button, because they are constantly moving and unless exactly clicked the character will just walk past them.
With mobs there’s another issue: they are everywhere, needing to constantly click on each one of them is unnerving and quite frankly possible only for a bot.
I’d like to suggest a change to the combat flow: once we click on a mob and it dies, the moment we mouseover another mob without releasing the attack button we start attacking that other mob.
This would cut the number of click by a lot and make combat smoother without having to constantly click on each mob, especially useful when we are surrounded and we can’t tell the mob we were tageting died, leaving us in the middle of a group of enemies doing nothing.
I will not say it is not true.
But I have poor aim and shaking hands, and I never used the “stand still” feature. Opposite, I found it easier to aim in Last Epoch than in some other games.
I confess the few times I used melee attacks (as long as it took to get ranged skills or even Warpath) it always annoyed me to see ‘attack the air’ when I press the button and I’m not in range. The mobs keep moving, or one dies and the other is a pixel too far away, and instead of moving closer my character will flail at the air.
I also notice that I keep left mouse (movement) pressed as I also hold right mouse (attack) and that seems to do it for me, no need to even use Shift or the Optional setting.
