Trying to like this game - Have Questions

  1. Are experimental gear meant for something other than improvements? I’ve never gotten one that is worth losing other gear for.

  2. Does this game have early D4 problem where you just randomly die and don’t know why? Maybe a skill issue, but usually win I die I can’t even know why.

  3. The itemization feels really awful, is crafting a required part of getting better gear?

  4. Why is leveling so painfully slow? Do I need to “get guud” or is there something else I SHOULD be doing other than the main quests. I’m going to get sick of this game before I reach end game at this pace.

Hello and welcome to the LE community!

Experimental affixes are usually pretty specific and not every build can or want to utilize them. There are however some that you might want. If that is the case you usually need a very lucky drop or instead use the Glyph of Insight as a crafting method to deterministically craft speific experimental affixes on your items.

I can’t talk about D4 issues about randomly dying.

But all deaths in LE that I have experience since the last months and years where justified and clear.

Crafting is as important as looting. You need to combine both to get the best items.
I don’t think it is awful, it might require some rethinking from your side if you find it awful. Just rethink your approach to loot and how to craft. Once you get mroe experience with the crafting system it will become very rewarding.

What level are you? How far have ýou gotten into the endgame?
Your skill setup will be mostly finished with level 76 and after that it will mostly come down to getting better gear and a few more passives.

I don’t know why you are getting sick of the game already, do you not like the core gameplay loop?

Thanks for the reply. I assume some of my issue is skill issues, so I’m not really upset, I’m more trying to confirm that I’m just a newb and need to get used to things.

The leveling however, I feel is very slow. I don’t know exactly how much time I’ve put on my current character, but it’s more than dozens of hours, call it 50. I have a total of 200 hours played, and that’s because I started to level a class, and around level 30 I realized I had messed it up badly and just needed to start over.

I’m not “comparing” D4 to LE, but there are experiences that I look at between the two. I can hop into D4 for and have a max (early game) character in about 20 hours. LE seems to want you to go slow, which is fine, but it’s too slow.

I do like the game, it’s better than D4 in many ways. I also do notice that this could all be skill issues.

In LE, “Maxing” out a character is more a stretch goal than a requirement. Most builds are finished between 85-90 and anything past that is just extra your tossin’ in. Your charcter should have all of it’s skills maxed well before then also and it’s just tree you are working on after that. I’d not stress too much about hitting 100, it’s just not necessary. My main is still 93 and pushes 250 corruption, for example.

I think what makes LE very different from D4 is that the journey is already half of the experience.

The devs don’t want the game to start, when you reach endgame.

Playing your builds from the first few minutes already feels really good with skill spec slots, passives, amsteries all coming together.

You have a functional build with many cool synergies within a couple of hours.

So when you are saying you are level 50, you already have 5 skill spec slots, which means you have a pretty decent build already. Getting through the levels is just core gameplay, if you don’t like that I don’t know if this is the right genre for you.

Also LE tries to give you all you need for your build relatively early, but the whole min-maxxing part can take dozens and dozens, if not hundreds of hours. And that is how it is supposed to be, if you really wanna make this character perfect.

You get more exp from killing higher level monsters. If you full clear every campaign zone
you overlevel really hard, so try to stay below the zone level as much as possible and you can do it in a couple of hours. Crafting is part of the itemization and not that complicated, you get enough materials during leveling, just slam it on, it helps.

You can actually start playing the endgame as soon as you choose your mastery. But the monsters will be 40 levels higher than you, so you need to craft good rares or even legendaries, leveling a second character will be super fast.

I appreciate this idea, but I whole heartedly disagree. POE players say that learning the massively over complicated system is just “part of the experience”. Sure, there are a lot of people who like learning really complicated, multi-faceted game loops, but not “most”. If LE is planning on being elitist about it’s campaign experience, that feels weird.

It’s an ARPG, the genre is mostly defined by how good the end game is. If this was meant to not be an end game focused game, then the developers wouldn’t put much time into the end game. They have though, and most players, just want to get there asap.

I’m not trying to start a fight, everyone has different opinions about things. Mine is that the leveling feels unnecessarily slow.
