Training dummy snapshot

Hi guys, I dont think Im the only old bro who has issues trying to see the numbers on some attacks when they’re zooming off the dummys at 15 per second. I was wondering if you could ever implement like a timer button you hit and then it records 10-20 seconds on the dummy then pops up a screen “your average damage was X per second and your highest hit was X gazillion” I think it would be super helpful and kinda cool

Thanks for your consideration.

It would be great if I could see which skill or ailment dealt damage during these 10 seconds.
Like a chat message or a separate damage window.

Yea WoW has a combat log window. Not sure how complicated that would be to add might not but then again WoW was coded around that originally.

Hahah I dont expect a full log - Poe PTSD 14 years and no log! But def a pop box only on the dummies would be interesting as heck and super helpful when scaling skills and testing items rather than 600 numbers per second lol

The devs have always stated in the past that they don’t want a combat log which is what the OP is asking for.

Personally I would like to have one but I understand why the devs don’t (though disagree that it would be an issue).

I would also like to see DPS summary grouped by skills/ailments used. I want to know and see if my ideas work as i think they do.

Nahhhh I feel like my request is a little different to a combat log. A combat log would have every single character in the game/servers co-currently engaged in battle recording all the damage they’re being hit by, blow by blow, rolling out into a chat box tab down the bottom left. Currently it’s still recording the killing blow when we play right, so it’s a mini-combat log haha “you died to whizzling fizz bang attack which hit you for 3000 damage, 1500 over kill” so it’s got the data just not being dumped to each player.

My request differs because the dummy is not hitting you back it’s going to be a 1 way, short timer interaction and I would say the percentage of players who use the dummy is a fraction of over all players on the server at any given time.

One way data → click a start button, set to 15 or 20 seconds → dummy records data from your skills → pops up a screen just like the screen that says highest hit was erasing strike with 8.6 million and for Dot builds the ailments.

That’s just how I see it anyway, I like knowing what killed me in those WTF moments but a combat log really doesn’t bother me too much, I don’t need to know every fight. I just want to be able to read the text flying off a dummy lol

Plus if we dont ask it’ll never happen and over time with new stuff their end the ability to do things that were previously asked but told no, might change

Oh if not a snapshot and pop up - maybe they could just tweak the numbers on the dummy, stay with me here (explains story with excited hand gestures) - so like as the numbers fly off it records the highest dmg hit and pins it somewhere on the screen for 10 seconds - same with the ticks lol

there has to be a work round they’re happy to commit to just on ze dumdums

That’s not what comes to mind when I think of a combat log, why on earth would you want/get to see the damage being dealt by randos on the other side of the planet playing LE?

My experience was from SWTOR where you got your damage as it was happening & it was only with 3rd party apps that those stats would be shared with the rest of your raid team.

Yeah, that’s a combat log.

Yeah, that’s fair & I’m not saying it shouldn’t be done, I was just giving the devs’ previous response. It also wasn’t based on technical reasons, they’ll be capturing that kind of data anyway. They don’t want certain negative social pressures that could/may come from exposing that kind of data to the community.

Hahaha fuck I laughed at that top reply!

And I know you’re for it not against it, I just thought my snap shot was different - even a dummy log wouldn’t be hard on performance like an every fight levelling a char one?

Ah I dunno, maybe they can just slow the numbers down heaps so I can read them then lol

A combat log by any other name is still a combat log. :person_shrugging: I doubt performance would be significantly affected, especially since it could just be output to a local file which 3rd party apps could then parse & output/log in a player friendly way without requiring dev time.
