Brilliant Season Mechanic Idea: What if we had a season that was focused on progressing through a train where there is a boss at the end. Each car could come with modifiers that manipulate the loot outcomes in different ways, there could be different environmental/train car effects (train car could be on fire or missing wheels). You could have the total rewards dropped in a lootbox at the end of the train, all sorts of fun stuff!

So kinda like PoE Ultimatum, except itās train flavoured?
Not really. Each car would be separate from its predecessor, not a combination of previous negative effects. You could have a Gold car, a supplies car with lots of affixes, etc⦠The effects of each car (arena, if you will) will be isolated to that car specifically.
Also, Ultimatum was/is garbage. The rewards were almost never worth the insane modifiers faced. The only reason to interact with it at all, is for catalysts.
It still sounds weirdly familiar (other than the train theme) as if Iāve played something quite similar already.
Either way, even if it already exists, I wouldnāt mind something like that in the game, although probably not as a train, as I feel that would feel out of place with the current game world we have. Kinda anachronistic.
But it could still be done in a way that fits the theme.
I donāt think that would be a seasonal mechanic, though, since theyāre still adding core stuff. So it could be another endgame mechanic (which the game is still lacking anyway) added to core. I think that would be fine.
And I also agree that Ultimatum is bad. Though not as bad as Sanctum (although Sanctum is only bad because of the whole honour/resolve mechanic).
Oh yeah, I agree that LE could throw their own flavor on the idea. I use the term ātrainā loosely to define a progression mechanic. I think (in some ways), its more similar to the āDelveā mechanic in PoE. But, I think thereās some untapped potential amidst the varying conceptual designs.
As for it being āseasonalā or not, I would agree that it could go core⦠but introduced as a new season mechanic (much like how PoE introduces new core content through its leagues). Itād definitely help develop a much more diverse endgame experience.
PS. Yes, Sanctum is 100% pure butt. The honour/resolve system makes NO sense in an ARPG. Take that away, and itād be far less of a nuisance.
I just said that because there will be no seasonal-exclusive mechanic for a while. Theyāre still adding core stuff to the game, so everything that gets added is also added to all modes, including legacy and offline.
Iām sure weāll eventually get seasonal-exclusive stuff at some point, but possibly not for another season or 2, at least.
