Trade development update - Introducing merchants guild and circle of fortune factions

Yes, you can

Yes you can do that.

You don’t need resonance for that. Only if the item did drop while in you were not together in a party.
You can gift items that dropped on a CoF character, but they will keep their CoF requirement.

Also resonance is account specific, not character specific.

All items that were Sol or bought through the bazaar will gain MG requirement.

If you get an unexpected random drop in MG you could also use that item on a CoF character, because random drops in MG do not have any requirement.

I just want to say that this is one of the smartest ideas I’ve seen, that allows accomodations for friends who play together a lot to still play alone sometimes.

One of the thing I like from the system is how faction tie into EHG core value : that you need to play the game to progress.

In a purely “open trade”, it is possible to continuously trade items to turn a profit, much like you can trade stocks IRL to earn money. Open trade also face the same problems as real life (monopoly, price gouging, abuse of dominant position, etc.), meaning the law/rules (= coding) needed to ensure a healthy economy aren’t trivial to implement.

Now, because of the faction cost, even if you can earn enough currency through trading to buy anything you want, the reputation cost means you actually need to play the game (to earn that reputation) to allow you to perform trades. EHG was always very transparent that they want progression to be earned through playtime, not “trade time”, and the information we got so far seems to indicate they stayed true to their belief.

Why we can’t resell items? Like if your done with the character what you do with its gear set? Just vendor it? Otherwise seem really cool.

There is probably multiple reasons but from what I have seen so far:

  • Number of items on the market doesn’t inflate crazily since they will be removed from market once traded.
  • Stops flipping just for profit
  • Prevents people using trade in unintended ways. For example if it was allowed, you could trade an item to someone to craft it for you and get it back and in a way trade crafting materials this way. However crafting materials aren’t intended to be traded.
  • Helps prevent people using mules etc for whatever reason (For example to avoid being banned for RMT)

It also doesn’t matter which faction you were representing when the resonance dropped.

For example, if the Resonance dropped when I affiliated CoF, and then I use the Resonance after changing to MG, no equipment restrictions when I give it to my friend who affiliate MG?

Honestly this seems the best option, so that people pick whichever works best for them. The problem has been that the only two viable options for a game of this nature is heavy trade but less loot or no trade but lots of loot. Going in the middle would never work - so you let the players choose between two extremes.

Also resonances allow gifting to people you actually play with while making exploiting it for trade difficult. It seems like the best solution that could be found for gifting to friends.

Buff circle of fortune JUST A LITTLE MORE, and I would say it is perfect. It does seem like it is just on the edge of competing with merchants guild for farming.

I LOVE this choice, honestly I cannot think of any improvements becides minor rebalancing.

TLDR; Limit friends list - free trade with friends(or add guilds and guild trade) > Resonance

Trade faction is weirdly limited while SSF gets a buff - Trading is useless outside of niche exalted WEAPONS and very early progression. May as well keep the game SSF at this point.

Limit the friends list and allow friends to trade freely after being friends for a minimum amount of time (3 days?). Resonance is an extra annoying step to this. Finding a good upgrade for my buddy while hes at work, and then having to farm together for how ever long it takes to random drop the resonance is frustrating and time consuming. Not to mention we would need similar work schedules or he could end up still waiting days for that big upgrade he hasn’t been able to find, and I will have to hold on to an item i can’t use.

The factions seem cool, but we’re still limiting trade. Either have it or don’t at this point. I don’t get it. Switching factions is a death wish for the other factions gear, essentially forcing you to remain in the faction you start with. Which is fine, but the trade faction is limited to ground level uniques, sets and specifically exalted weapons? While the other one is SSF, exactly like they wanted with buffed drops.

Great idea! I will definitely play Circle of Fortune. I burn out too quickly when it comes to games with enabled trade and nerfed drop rates when it comes to solo players(like poe).

I feel like you wouldn’t be happy with anything they could come up with.

You’d be wrong

They give you trading, an auction house, and the ability to gift items to friends who were offline / not in your party when something drops. I don’t think anything they can do would satisfy you.

You’re also jumping to insane conclusions from an unfinished example of what the faction rank rewards are.

The comments are made on what they have currently and was not a jump to any conclusion. You for some reason took this personally, didn’t mean to call you out fam. Do you need a hug?

For MG faction all equipable items will be tradeable at max rank

I like the system though a thought on a consequence it might have. I think the sweet spot for the balance between MG and CoF will depend on how many characters a account is assumed to play with.

Running CoF will grant you a high amount of items you don’t need for your build that if you don’t have an alt then these items provide 0 value/reward for playing. Hence the balance of CoF is either made comparable to MG assuming multiple characters or not. My guess is that the balance where lie somewhere in between which leads me to the conclusion that:

CoF: Will be better the more alts you have or plan to have.
MG: Will be the best if you will only have one character…

I had not thought of that, but it is very similar to what I did think of. Ok so picture someone who has lots of characters, but does not progress very far into corruption.

For such a user, Trade will likely be of more value due to “kicking in” earlier, and not needing high progression for trade unlocks. Where as CoF is of less value due to requiring more ranks and corruption to stack on for better drops.

This also means that the more corruption you push the better CoF becomes, regardless of characters assuming the current info is correct about how they stack.

So if I understand this correctly, I can play MG at the start of the cycle, buy basic gear and uniques for my build, once I’ve dropped better or equal gear I can switch to my dropped gear and change to CoF. Right ?

Even if not, I do think a boosted drops (SSF)CoF m0ode would be really good. Please include boosted droprate of dungeon keys (maybe as a rank reward) for CoF (one of the major annoyances of PoE was fragments as SSF).

Use prophecies to hunt seems quite interesting, would be cool to see some gameplay of that in the next Devstream or whenever its ready.

Yes that is correct, as long as you have random drops for all slots ready to equip.

This system will not be ready that early. (even for showing in dev environment)

This will come between 0.9 and 1.0.

Only the resonances might make it into the game a bit earlier disconnected from the Faction System
