Just wondering if I’m the only one who things there are too many waypoints on the minimap? Particularly the waypoints that take you straight to the end boss/exit in Echos.
One of the things I enjoyed about past ARPGs is hunting for the exit and having to clear things and navigate around. Hunt for it, essentially. Not really a fan of being able to rush straight to the exit every single time. This also applies while general questing. Idk, I like the adventure and hunt of these games. Pointing me straight to my objective every time just takes away from the randomized map generation imo. Let me explore.
But I may be alone in this thought as well. Looking for what others think as well
Thank you
Edit: I should clarify I’m talking about the arrows that point you to the direction you need to go on the minimap. Not the blue zone waypoints lol
I’m alright with having quest markers and arrows in Last Epoch. The big reason is because even if you do explore, there’s typically nothing to see. And since there’s nothing to see, I kind of just want to be done and over with a zone once the novelty’s worn off.
By see, I’m talking interesting side quests, journal entries, an interesting piece of lore, the humble beginnings of what would later become an empire, some descendant or ancestor of an NPC, something to interact with, etc. Doesn’t have to be all the time, of course.
Most of the time in LE, it’s just a dead end or a portal leading to a dead end, and those things just don’t interest me.
There was one exception. There was this one path in one of the woods where I heard this groan and I looked around and saw this hulking tree monster thing lumbering off in the distance. That was fricking cool. Was hoping it would be a later boss encounter or something, but it never happened.
(Unfortunately, the same map also happened to have what I would consider one of the worst early-game dead ends…)
I’m not sure you can have exploration in a non-open world game, especially since the areas in LE are relatively small. I’d love to have more hidden things to discover (Sacred, Titan Quest and Grim Dawn were good for this).
Defenitely! Would be nice to have some secret areas you can discover. The entrances to these places could be randomised in terms of ocation and type. So you would not always find the same entrance to the same area in the same spot of the same map.
But this would mean there must be some reward at the end of exploration. Not just a random treasure chest, but something that justifies taking a break from the questing/story.
In terms of markers:
A while ago I thought about not wanting these questmarkers, too. They hinder exploration. But since the maps are not random, people would know the destination anyway.
And when I played some PoE recently I missed the markers as it’s not really obvious where to go for what quest.
This is not an open world game with huge content to explore. So removing the markers would not change that much and maybe also annoy many people as they are forced to explore the maps, when theres nothing to explore.
Yeah! This is really nice. Hopefully we will see more of this kind of stuff.
Yeah this would be great. Having random events/areas that can spawn to mix things up a bit is a great idea. Wolcen has these random small challenge caves that appear as you travel through areas, that could work well in LE.
Maybe the quest pointers should not appear as soon as you enter the area but instead only appear when you are within a certain distance of the objective?
I always seem to head straight towards the pointer at the quickest path possible because it feels like the game is telling you to do that. Not showing them so early would help to stop this and allow for some exploration without feeling you are wasting your time.
To be honest, I’m here to kill monsters, not to wander all around searching for somewhere to go and something to do. If it were an open world it would be OK to wander, but if it were an open world I would probably not play. When I have something to do, I like to know where it happens and ge straight to the point. So for me, from this point of view, the game is perfect as it is.
Personal opinion, of course.
there is never enough waypoints! You can always decide to not use them if you are one who prefers to do all the previous stages again. We have a choice and this is always good (IMO).
