Too many shade of Orobyss that lowers corruption in empowered timelines

I’ve been trying to increase the corruption of my empowered timelines, however I keep seeing Orobyss modifiers that lowers corruption. If I end up and orobyss branch, they mostly appeared to be that type 5 out of 6 times. Do I need to do something specific to fish the orobyss that increase the corruption or this is a general mechanic for empowered timelines ? I’m still around 100-200 corruption on my timelines for my characters and with each of them I feel like I can do much higher, I almost never die, yet I cannot progress further due to this situation. I would really be happy if someone can clarify the situation.

The amount of Corruption a Shade gives depends on its distance from the starting point.

So you want to go outwards as far away from the starting point as possible.
You can always reach shades that give ~+14-17 corruption. Sometimes you are more lucky or unlucky and you either have no early dead ends at all or alot of dead ends already.

Only the shades that are close to the starting point give negative corruption.

The higher your corruption goes, the further you have to go within an echo web, to have positive corruption shades, but you will always be able to get the same amount of Corruption if you are pushing far enough.

Edit: It is also important to understand that it’s not about the number of echoes you have traveled, but it’s about the relative distance from an individual echo away from the starting point.
You can always see by the amount of timelinestability a Node gives, if you are traveling deeper, sideways or closer to the starting point

Building on what Heavy said, you can also farm the monolith boss to get a Gaze of Orobyss. Each Gaze of Orobyss gives you bonus corruption when you kill Orobyss (so having 10 Gazes of Orobyss stores and then killing a +10 Corruption Orobyss will give you +20 Corruption). However if you die to Orobyss you lose all Gazes, so risk reward.

If you do Shades that give negative corruption Gaze Of Orobyss will not come into effect though, so this does not help with OP’s complain.

Realllllly!!! What kind of backwards maths is that??? That’s just stupid.

As soon as the Shade at least gives +1 corruption, the Gaze will come into effect.

I think this is very reasonable, since this whole system is meant to be slightly escalating in terms of what and how much you need to do to progress.

And even on higher corruption it does not require that much to reach a shade with at least +1 corruption. At least when you try to go as straight outwards as possible.

Currently, with no way to remove gazes outside of consuming them, it’s extremely needed that they don’t apply to negative ones. Otherwise hardcore characters would need to keep up a certain pace of progression, otherwise they’d potentially get stuck (ideally we’d have a way to remove them anyway, but if gazes did apply to negative corruption ones to make them positive, it would be very bad)
