For anyone unfamiliar, WoW had (has?) a passive for warriors that allows them to dual wield 2h weapons, with some damage debuff or something to compensate for it.
I think it would be fun to have some build option like this in LE. It could be a passive or maybe a unique item. But it would be cool to be able to combine two big stonking weapons, and perhaps open up some cool unique combos. No idea what the balancing debuff would need to be.
I imagine if it was going to be a passive it’d be a linked passive behind the dual wield passive on one or more of the classes that can do that. Probably just primalist and sentinel make sense, but I could see the argument for a mage having some magic reason they could do it. idk.
If it was an item, maybe a pair of gloves? Gives you some amazing grip strength, allowing you to hold large weapons in one hand. I could also maybe see a ring or maaaaaybe a belt. (like a weight belt that helps you lift things safely.) At least those are the thematic choices without thinking that much about what the power budget for those slots are or what competes for those slots.
To be honest, while I like the idea, I think this would need some very grave penalty and restriction to be in balance, simialr to how dual wielding firght now is restricted for different weapon types for different classes/masteries.
Items, especially uniques are balance around what classes can DW them and which can’t.
2H weapons are not balance in that way, so when they would give any class or mastery the ability to dual wield 2H weapons it need to take all the possible Uniques/Set Items and regular base types into consideration.
If they ever gonna do this, this will most certainly come with one entirely new mastery or new class and most likely will lead to some already existing uniques to get adjusted.
A much much more simple and easier solution would be a new unique/set item, which allows you to wield it together with something else.
Like a 2H Weapon that specifically statees it can be wielded together with a Shield (or other Weapon) (or a Shield that allows you to wield it with a 2H weapon)
Yeah it would definitely be an interesting balance challenge. Although making a 2h unique that does this defeats half the point. You still get the fantasy of two big honking weapons, but it does mean you lose the build opportunities that would come with being able to combine weapons you previously couldn’t use together.
All they’d need to do is add another passive with another set of modifiers to reduce the damage & increase the damage taken if dw’ing 2 2-handers. Balance is a thing, but this isn’t rocket science.
